My car insurance went down £3. I did retire a couple of months ago so whether that made a difference I don't know.1

Ouch....just had my home insurance renewal. Up 45%.
A quick look on comparison sites and I can reduce that to 20% with exactly the same cover.
Now wonder if they'll match/beat that? Or do I take the "meerkat" offers too!

I had an odd one with my insurance renewal just over a year ago - the renewal quote had gone up a chunk, so I did some shopping around. I ended up saving something like 60% somewhere else - but with the same underwriter. I went to the original company and told them about it, so she went back to the underwriter - but couldn't even improve on their own quote, let alone match the new one. So after a lot of years, I just moved - I actually managed to improve the levels of cover within the same price. My renewal this time was only about +8%. I'm annoyed that I didn't shop around sooner - loyalty has no value these days.1

I'm trying not to think about how much mine has gone up.... I've a complicated situation, with a listed building and an insurer who didn't want to renew.
I've paid the best deal my broker found and am pretending it didn't happen.2 -
We also have a complicated situation. Our large garage has a self contained annex above it and even though it's all within the curtilage of the same plot, the Valuation Office deemed it had to have a separate address and Council Tax band. Furthermore, the garage/annex is Oak Framed and Oak Clad. Consequently we can't use a comparison site and ended up using A-Plan (now Howden) as they were the only people who were able to get us anything like a sensible quote.1

Reminds me I need to phone our new home insurer and get them to email me to confirm our complicated ownership situation! I was with them until a couple of years ago and they were happy to do it then; the last insurer also did it so it's not that complicated, but I just have to DO IT!Signature removed for peace of mind0

Well today was farcical. I contacted current insurer and said they were too expensive and informed them I had a like for like quote of £203, and that I'd stay if they matched it. They came back and said they made some adjustments and how does £226 sound. I said it sounded £23 too much! Then new quote dropped to £198.
And meerkat movies too. :-)9 -
Another farcical incident this morning. Contacted Octopus who said i'd be charged if i left before day 45. Pointed out it's 49 days and they confirmed it was indeed 49.
So switched to a deal fixed for 12 months 7% below the price cap.

Good old Octopus, just had my 3 monthly saying they are going to put the DD up. I'm in credit as always so it's complete nonsense. They do make me chuckle how they say we are supplying all our customers with 100% renewable electricity, like you can split up the supply from the national grid, laughable.0

The other thing that irritates me is their wheel of fortune, designed to look like all outcomes are equally likely. Like a roulette wheel. Except it this case the segments need resizing to reflect the actual probability.of winning that prize.2
