Giving Up/Cutting Down Alcohol Thread Part 17

In philosophical mood, feel free to "scroll on by"!.
Been watching some youtube documentaries on alcohol abuse (it's a slow day here!). Pretty scarey stuff. One guy drinking 30 pints a day! People whose livers are on the verge of packing up - yellow skin and eyes, people hiding vodka around the house - trying to fool people. It's the only drug we have to apologise for not using and are actively encouraged to by society, friends, partners to use. It wouldn't happen for fentanyl. It's too cheap, too easily available.
I really wouldn't want to be in A&E on a Friday night - but as one nurse said - "It's like this on Tuesday lunch-times nowadays!".
The Government criticises the "drinking culture" yet allows 24-hour sales! A quick Google found this - 3 cans of super strength lager £5 - that's 12 units! Retail outlets selling at a loss to entice custom!
Strange how there's a limit on paracetamol purchases but not alcohol. yes I know it's also cheap but that's not the point. I used to drink too much too often but not since April 2022, gave up apart from the odd times in Menorca (as some of you will know). Did it all on my own. No help, no withdrawal symptoms. I'm proud of that.
Back on topic - Oddly, another AFD and 28/30 please! Cheers ... or not!Now not a gainfully employed bassist.5 -

Can I join, please? Intend doing dry January in it's entirety. Have done it before. Want to give up to aid weight loss for a break away in February.Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

@cathybird you are absolutely right with your wise words on this not being a competition. In fact I am not at all a competitive person but somehow I just feel inspired on this thread to keep up and not let the team down!
My overall goal is to permanently lower my alcohol consumption and to build that thinking into my life, more and more, and for all the years to come. I won’t do a dry January (but highly respect those who do) because, knowing myself, it would mean that in February I would feel an urge to “reward” myself with more alcohol than usual. Little steps, but often, is my motto - at least for now.

Can I go for 30 for January please?
Does anyone get a sore tongue the day after drinking? I think my sore tongue is acerbated by daily low-dose chemo tablets, but it's still a concern which I'll raise at my January review. What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?5
