Giving Up/Cutting Down Alcohol Thread Part 17

Today really, really is 23/30 (checks after yesterday's arithmetical "oops"!) and in the wilderness of no emoji for a few days. But that's OK, time flies (good thing elephants don't!). Saturday will be 500 (Five hundred! May I have a special one for 500?) days since a drink excluding Menorca and even then I didn't drink to excess. I've impressed myself here - I used to get in a flap if I had to wait an hour!
Just goes to show how strong - or weak - the psyche can be. The profits of the local Nisa have certainly dipped, they must think I'm in prison or dead. I'm neither, obviously. I won't even have a celebratory drink for 500, I'm not going back to zero AFDs in a row. "There's always tomorrow" - but it's here. Went to a festival over the week-end and my friend had red wine - I could smell it all evening! (Mind you there were some other 'interesting' smells there for sure).
Ah well, on with my day - a big tidy-up, gig money to collect and a vegan lentil, chick pea and spinach curry (home cooked) on the cards for tonight, Yeah!
It's been said to me that I have an "addictive personality", not sure. OK if I buy a mint Aero "for sharing" - oh no it's not! Buy a 3 pack of choc-ices? All mine (in the car before I get home!). Save one for later? Um...no chance. Still, it's not vodka, 'chemicals' or as in the Bottom episode "What are you eating Eddie?" "Lard! I'm too drunk to cook!".
With luck, my ramblings will inspire others who had the same alcohol dependency as I did. 4 cans of super strong lager a night - sometimes during the day - is not good but I beat it Yes, me! For those with a decent memory, the MR2 is on hold - with the current cost-of-living crisis I'm relying on the prices dropping. I mean now - £1,000+ just for a hard top - madness.
OK that's enough twaddle for now. See y'awl laters!Now a gainfully employed bassist again - WooHoo!6 -

22/27 please cathybird. I'm off for a swim! Was a bit of a struggle but I resisted adding a bottle of whiskey to my grocery home delivery.Quite proud of it in light of lethargy, brain fog and pains. Would have loved sipping on the whiskey, but both knowing the detrimental effect on my health AND saving myself a hefty £20 on my asd@ bill managed to curb the urge!3

500 days AF will be a fantastic achievement RobM99. You should be rightly proud of that. It’s always interesting to hear what others consider to have been ‘too much’ when they look back at their drinking; there’s a spectrum isn’t there, for you it was a four pack of silly-strength lager, for someone else it could just be a couple of extra glasses of wine with dinner, and at the other end of the scale it’s the people who are doing two bottles of vodka every night. I think wherever we fall on that scale, it’s just having the realisation that I’m drinking too much / too often, it’s becoming habitual, and I’ve gotta change it.Oh PS your quote from Bottom reminded me of the episode where Eddie came back from the pub somewhat worse for wear, he opened the kitchen cupboard with all the bleach and cleaning stuff in it and said gleefully “Welcome to Eddie’s Bar!!”
23/31 please cathybird and I’m very much hoping to make it an alc’ free August. Thank you.4 -
