Rob, love the sweet analogy, that's so spot on.
"The prefrontal cortex contributes to a wide variety of executive functions, including: 1. Focusing one’s attention 2. Predicting the consequences of one’s actions; anticipating events in the environment 3. Impulse control; managing emotional reactions 4. Planning for the future 5. Coordinating and adjusting complex behaviors (“I can’t do A until B happens”)".
In summary, the decision-making process. "I wouldn't do (have done) that sober!" Something that gives us pleasure can be "more-ish" or even addictive so the intake (or whatever) increases and becomes harder to resist. It was suggested to me that maybe I have a bit of an addictive personality. If I buy a box of mint choc-ices I eat them all in one go (well, one at a time!) because they are there, in easy reach. I used to buy 4-packs of lager - "I'll have one, save the rest for tomorrow etc." But of course I didn't - last sweet in the bag syndrome. So I don't buy any booze at all now - the fridge is less likely to scupper my efforts!
Enough of that - 17/30today, please.Now a gainfully employed bassist again - WooHoo!5 -
Good morning everyone. Rob your post was very insightful. 👍 I suppose we all have addictive traits in one form or another (chocolate being a good example). Some people however suffer in the extreme. My experience of this has gone from helping someone who had alcohol addiction, move to drugs and then to gambling. Thankfully they are much better now but an addictive type personality still presents itself in interests, like focus on following American politics, which lets face it is not a conversation starter! Still they’ve come a long way thankfully.
Anyway enough from me,14 for me today Cathybird please.Pay ALL your debts by Xmas 2016 - No 30 £981.00/£3000:

Very interesting and insightful Rob. Dexsmummy, that's a good point about focus on interests, I definitely find I obsess over things and I had never linked it to having an addictive personality but it makes perfect sense.4
