Champagne Lifestyle on a Lemonade Budget - 2021

My Champagne moment yesterday was going to Poetic Unity's Open Mic event at Black Cultural Archives. It was such an empowering and entertaining evening. We had new young poets who were so talented they left me awestruck.
I did 2 of my poems: When I Am An Old Woman and Woman Move Your Eye. They were both well received but my 2nd poem Woman Move Your Eye, got the most applause.
I was supposed to be going to Theatre 503 today to watch the play Moreno, but the play had to be cancelled due to one of the actors testing positive for Covid-19. The theatre has asked that all of the ticket holders have patience for a week then they hope to be in touch with an offer of a refund or transfer of your ticket to a later date for the play.
I am making good use of the time and watching some films on Disney Plus today and some more episodes of Lie To Me.5 -
My champagne moment today is getting to grips with knitting with double pointed needles to make socks.Debt free and Keeping on Track5

Thank you very much, ladies 😄
Sugarbaby, I am very envious of your poetry writing talent - despite loving writing and enjoying poetry, it's something I've never been remotely competent at!
And as for Mrs P knitting socks!!! I'm afraid I never progressed beyond a scarf, lol 😂Mortgage-free for fourteen years!

Phoebe, thank you for the compliment.
I do not exaggerate when I say, that the more Open Mic poetry events or creative writing workshops and courses that I go to, the more I am left wondering just how many seriously talented poets are out there who have never had their talent recognised. My biggest problem is my inability to learn my own poetry, so I have to perform them reading them from the written and printed out sheet.
Almost all of the other poets on the Open Mic poetry circuit memorise their poems. I most probably could if I really put the effort in, but I have short term memory problems, so it would make me too nervous when I was performing one of my poems. I would be so sure that I would forget the lines of my own poems.
I have a fair amount of work that I have written over the years, so I have still not yet got to the point where I have performed each of my poems and short stories. With some of the other poets I have heard them perform the same poems 2,3, 4 or 5 times, which means that unfortunately I know what is coming.5 -
Good Morning my lovely friends.Good to see you all posting and sharing your champagne moments,
well it's been a funny old week. A bit up and down but hey that's life. A few "widow" moments, feeling a bit melancholy and still no desire to socialise. My champagne moments this week seem very dull and insignificant compared to many of yours but for me they are pretty awesome. Here's my two main ones this week......
1. Spring is in the air. At last!!! I even managed to switch off the central heating during the day yesterday, I'm trying not to worry too much about the rise in utility bills but it's scary isn't it. So I welcome the onset of spring and some warmer weather.
2. I am trialling a "wonder product" for my arthritis and fibro. All natural so no nasty side effects. It's early days yet but so far I'm astonished at how much better I feel. I managed a walk yesterday with no pain. Wahoo. At this rate I shall be soon be dancing. 💃💃💃. In all seriousness I am hoping this will be a game changer for me. I want my life back.Lots of other nice little wins and champagne moments, some nice chazza shop bargains. IGot a busy week ahead, preparing for my "little man" starting work on the 21st. A final push to get the house market ready. 🤞.Have a great week y'all.8 -
My Champagne moment yesterday was sitting down to a home cooked pork loin chop in gravy with red pepper, brown onion and baby carrots. I also cooked baby baked potatoes drizzled with olive oil and rubbed them with mixed herbs and added hot tinned sweetcorn and a mixed side salad for dinner with my 2 adult children. We also had a glass each of very low alcohol sparkling white wine which is Tesco own brand and only costs £2.75 for a full size bottle.
My children wanted to know what the occasion was, but I just told them it was just 'being thankful to be alive' day for the 3 of us.8 -

Well done, SUgarbaby. We should all be thankful to be alive and to be safe, especially right now when there is so much pain and suffering in the world. We may not be millionaires but by golly we can have a millionaire mindset.I know this sounds naff and please forgive me if I sound preachy or sanctimonious but every day I thank my lucky stars - even the days when I am feeling low or "widowy". I celebrate each day that I am alive because having lost my husband when he was just 57 I am acutely aware of just how fragile life can be and I refuse to waste a moment of it. I may still suffer from grief and I may have to watch the pennies rather more than I would like but I refuse to wallow in misery. A pity party for one is no fun at all.I freely admit I have champagne tastes and a lemonade budget. And yes I do love the finer things of life but I also appreciate the joy of waking up each morning to a fresh new day.Well today has been amazing.........truly one of those "it's great to be alive days" when everything just sort of fell into place and the good stuff just kept coming.4 perfect champagne moments.....
1. My share of my late husbands pension has been increased.......completely forgot it would, so extra in the budget. Wahoo. Not only is the extra money nice to have but it just reaffirms how much my husband loved me and did everything in his power to ensure I would be provided for. Sounds daft because I'm not religious but It just feels that he is still out there somewhere, watching over me. Love never really dies.
2. I sold a dress on eBay. Completely forgotten it was still listed. 😂🤣. Got a good price too. 😉
3. Eldest grandson was a bit off-colour and unable to attend nursery. DIL has been trying to work from home for the past two days whilst trying to cope with a poorly fractious child and was a bit frazzled so I popped over. He is now 3.5 years old and is really comfortable with me now. He threw himself at me before I had hardly taken my coat off and stuck to me like a limpet all afternoon. We spent hours playing with his extensive toy car collection (good job I'm a closet petrol head and like cars nearly as much as he does, lol) and me reading some of his favourite books to him. I have been practically cuddled to death. 😂🤣.4. But this is the real big one......my close friend who has been battling breast cancer got to ring the bell today. 💪
Just as soon as she is up to it I'm going to treat her to a slap up lunch in one of our city's finest restaurants. I promised her I would when she started her final round of treatment. This is a promise I am so thrilled to be able to keep. 💃💃
Its been a good day. I am grateful.16 -

Helen, I started to cry as I read your post and my tears turned to real joy on reading about your friend. Truly wonderful news indeed.
You are so right, it is these things that we should be celebrating, friends and family and the joy of being alive and especially the joy of freedom.Debt free and Keeping on Track5
