We sold our electric fan at a carboot before moving here...mainly because the noise kept me awake more than the heat, lol 😆 I'm so sensitive to extraneous sounds, whereas DH can sleep through anything 😂
I'm currently outside sitting at the table under the parasol (south-facing part of the garden) and it's come over a little cloudy here, not to mention noticeably less hot (temp has dropped to 28° 😃). The breeze I mentioned earlier is picking up too....panic over here I think 😉 In fact I'm going to put the parasol down before it takes off and go inside to do some work!!!
My bargainicious fabric purchased at the weekend and posted yesterday has supposedly encountered an 'issue in transit' linked to the heatwave 🙄3 -
Yes I think it's already getting cooler in the west, spreading my way by tomorrow. By the morning temps should be easier.4

What we do in summer, if the night is forecasted to be dry: put up the partytent, add the walls to block any views, hang up the mosquito net, put something protective (plastic or newspapers) down, add a mattress or two, and sleep outside.

My mother grew up in Oklahoma in the hot Midwest. Their homes always had a sleeping porch for summer ( a screened porch) where you set up beds during the summer. Many of the homes had summer kitchens out on the porch as well.6

I'd love a screened porch, Nancy 😊
At our last house we had a lovely old verandah dating from when the mid Victorian property was extended in the early 1920s. It had the most fabulous wisteria growing across it and the whole garden frontage of the house (some 70-80'). I miss everything about that place so much and wish we'd never sold it 😢
Anyway, today's champagne moments - it's cooler, yay! I can put away the floaty clothes and sandals for another year as I'm back to a (thin) jumper and crocs today 😉
On that subject, I was in TK Maxx with DH last night (he'd gone to return a t-shirt) when I spotted a couple of very classy long, linen button through dresses from The Shirt Company marked down to £40 each (RRP £150 and £140 😀). I decided to get them, although today I'm thinking they might go back - however they would work as a layered look over long sleeved tops and jeans/leggings so they might be keepers, lol!
Also, my super Transylvanian fabric from Mind the Gap arrived ok today....it's very boho so perfectly suited to us and our eclectic style (not to mention an absolute bargain) 😁
Edited to add...I've just trawled through my dressing table and a small chest of drawers, pulling out enough clothes to fill two black bags for the charity shop 🙂5 -
My Champagne moments on Wednesday and Thursday:
I went to Blackfriars Settlement on Wednesday for the mental health and wellbeing discussion group. Of course there was some discussion about the cost of living crisis. I was one of only 2 in the group who had received their £326 payment.
I reminded everyone that the latest they would receive this cost of living payment from the DWP would be 31st July and that put those still waiting, mind's to rest.
We discussed our upcoming day trip to Hampton Court on 4th August. I put my name down. We are all looking forward to spending time socialising with each other.
In the evening yesterday, I went to see the play Chasing Hares at The Young Vic. I received a free ticket from The Young Vic which was worth £50. There were 5 other members of Neighbourhood Voices watching the play, but only 2 were seated near to me, in the row in front of my row of seats. I really enjoyed this play, for me it was a 8.5/10.
Today, I went to Blackfriars Settlement to meet up with the other participants of the Windrush Project that I had taken part in. It turns out that 2 employees from the firm of Architects that will now be funding the project so it can become a touring exhibition, wanted to meet us all. It was a very productive meeting. It turned out that Leila, who works at Blackfriars Settlement, was the same Leila who is taking part in Neighbourhood Voices. We were both surprised to see each other. I had a lovely catch up with Will about writing my 1st play and the fact that once my play is written, I would like to see it on a stage in the near future. I am prepared to ask any of the professional contacts to help me to make my goal come true.

Go for it. SUgarbaby. Wishing you all the luck in the world. Think of us when you are up there giving your Oscar acceptance speech. 😁 give us a nod.My champagne moment today will be a massage. Gawd but I need one, I'm walking around like Quasimodo at the moment. Not a good look. 😱😂
