Happy new year everyone
Hope you all had a lovely celebration last night.
I was in bed for 9

Apart from lack of sleep I had a nice evening chatting to friends and picky eating. Some smoked salmon left over so may have that with some scrambled egg in a bit then a roast later No other plans bar bad films and maybe a couch kip
Have a good day all

Morning
Hope you're OK topsy xx
A lovely frost again. The house felt stuffy so I opened a couple of the downstairs windows, it feels much fresher now. I've spent the last couple of hours drinking coffee and going over lists, they're now neatly organised in my diary. I haven't let the chickens out yet, I need to clean the shed and it's too cold for multiples trips down the garden so I'll do it all at once as soon as I've posted this.
Nothing else is planned for the day, I'll just potter about between programs on telly. Need to check the guide to see if anything good is on first – bet there isn't! But I'm very pleased that season 3 of Cobra Kai has appeared on Netflix a week early, I would binge-watch but mr tru has no interest in it at all. I could banish him to the telly upstairs but that seems a bit unfair so I will watch an episode each time he goes for a shower/walks Scamp/does anything that means he's not in the lounge, lol.

Hi everyone
I'm a long time lurker and have followed the threads for a while and I have to say that I find great comfort in the daily routine of these posts (if that doesn't sound too stalker-ish!).
I decided to join in if that is okay and I hope you don't mind my rather boring updates but not much goes on here! It's my last "day off" today as I am back at work (from home) on Monday.
Like Nelski I was in bed by 9 last night but awake until the early hours with the fireworks - I have never heard so many!
Today I will be taking the Christmas tree down, seeing what we can eat to use up leftovers before the next shopping delivery arrives tomorrow morning.
No washing for me as I also go with the "washing on New Years Day is bad luck" rule!
I am just having my coffee, then breakfast and then I will get around to the tree! Following taking the tree down will be much hoovering as it has "snow" on it (maybe not the wisest choice but it does look pretty!).
Have a great day everyone

Happy New Year Nelski & everyone. It was a strange one last night, we did stay up but only to see how Ly1a was with the fireworks. We had a massive boom go off at 11 o clock but only when we watched the news did I realise Big Ben bonged at that time for Brexit. I got some new stuff for my scaredy hound and she was much better than bonfire night. It looks like the snow is melting a bit, will go out shortly. We shall be having some fillet steak I splashed out on at the butchers a while back, been saving it for a special meal, and a choice of trifle or bread & butter pud.I can't think of a better day, seeing the back of 2020 and the start of a New Year!Best wishes to you all xx:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Morning all a little delicate flower here we spent 2 hours chatting on zoom to friends we would normally spend the evening with. We seemed to have fireworks going off from 5pm onwards but no boat horns from the river this year . Today i may start cleaning my kitchen cupboards out but other than that not much else . Have a good day one and all xxSlava Ukraini15

Good morning, Happy New Year!Dull, wet and cold here, what a start to the new year.We had fools with fireworks as well Nels, only they weren't neighbours, it was some lads we think, couldn't see properly. They were on the grass over the road and aimed one firework across the road towards the houses. It landed harmlessly in next doors' garden, but if it had hit a window or one of the cars there could have been damage. When one of the neighbours went out and started walking over towards them they disappeared pretty quickly, and didn't return thank heavens. We stayed up till about 1 am, watched Jools Holland for a while as usual.I've always liked New Year, when we had a teenage family we used to have a party every year, we loved it.Now the teens are all grown up, one in Oz, and some friends have died or moved on. Nothing stays the same does it.Thinking of you all, and hoping the new year will turn out to be an improvement on the old one!!15

Morning folks and thanks NELS for our Daily kick off. I was up late last night, I extended bedtime until 10.30! All seemed calm and quiet outside with no evidence of any gatherings so straight to sleep. Then come midnight someone let the idiots out and fireworks woke me up! They didn't sound particularly local but were still loud enough to wake me up. Grr!
I don't normally make resolutions as I don't stick to them but this year I am determined to climb out of the Mode of Sloth that I have sunk into through all the lockdowns and restrictions. No excuses and no putting off for another day! With that in mind I am going to pack all the decs away today and give a good clean round. I always miss all the little lights sparkling around but I do keep a few around all year round. It cheers the place up a bit.
One of my favourite films is on this afternoon (Tea with Mussolini) so after lunch it will be feet up and giving that yet another viewing. Plus it gives me a taste of Italy.
We are forecast to get above 1 deg today! We are set to reach the dizzy heights of 3 deg!! Sadly not high enough to melt this blooming frozen snow!! Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. I hope it's a Happy New Year for one and all and it turns out to be much better than the last one. Take care folks, stay safe and sane x

Good morning everyone
Welcome to tryingtocutback, hope you enjoy posting here and we look forward to hearing all about you. Thank you Nelski for starting all of us off, sorry so many of you were woken up by fireworks, we had a few but not as many as usual.
I managed to stay up past midnight as even though the tv was rubbish I enjoyed reminiscing with Steve about the past year.
Today the diet starts for all of us in this house. I got up at 6 and made a pan of mushroom soup ready for lunch and the smell was so nice Lee came down early so I made us both American pancakes and berries for breakfast. It was a new to me recipe which used readybrek instead of flour and it was very very nice. We are having bacon and spinach pasta for dinner as it was Lee's turn to choose and this is one of his favourites. It's one of mine too mainly because it only takes 15 mins to cook.
Hope you all enjoy yourselves today and have a good time whatever you are up to. Take care xx

It's nice to "see" some new faces joining us, welcome one and all. And TRYINGTOCUTBACK I think that thanks to the times we are now in we all think our posts are boring! Going nowhere, seeing no-one is life's normal for most of us at the moment!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"13

Morning all and a very Happy New Year
We were also in bed before midnight but heard a few fireworks going off. Nothing much going on here today that I know of although yesterday I did do a freezer inventory to see what we've got. It seems we have a lot of party food, bought in anticipation of having family here for Boxing Day, so I think some of that will become lunch today.
Have a good day everyone.15
