Capitals to lower case - anyone?

Options
Does anyone know if there is a quick and easy way to highlight text that has been accidental written in upper case, to put it into lower case. I have tried Googling for this info but it all seems very complex. I'm sure I read somewhere that there is a keyboard shortcut for this. I'd be grateful if someone can help as it's something I seem to do all the time.

In Word, select it all then press Shift F3. Each time you press this it will alternate the text through a series of 3 settings:
    - all caps
    - all lower case
    - only first word of each sentence has caps

You have to be careful of this if there are names in your text requiring caps but still good to know, thanks.

tHANK YOU pASTURES nEW. tHAT IS WHAT i WAS AFTER.

You won't believe this. I have just read your advice again and realised it is only in WORD. I do it all the time - see above - so it seems like there is no way to do change it in everything i.e. email, documents and MSE:confused:

No. Nowhere to do it everywhere. Just Microsoft got their programmers to write a bit of code that does it in Word.

However, if you have Word, you can always copy/paste it into Word, change it in Word, copy/paste it back where you started.

This can also be achieved by adding buttons to Word's formatting toolbar. This is my toolbar .....

    Wordformattingtoolbar.gif

Notice the 4 buttons ringed in the middle .....the first INCREASES the font size a step at a time, the second REDUCES the font in the same way, the third WIDENS the font and the last CHANGES the case from upper to lower and to "sentence case".

This I find helpful as each choice is readily to hand from a toolbar button.

Just highlight the text & click the button. Job done.

To add these buttons to the toolbar just right click a grey empty space in the toolbar, choose "customise" at the foot of the list, click the "commands" tab then click on "format" to the left.

All the buttons will be displayed in the right hand pane .... just left click on the one(s) you want (one at a time) then hold, drags & drop the button(s) on to the toolbar.

There are other useful buttons you can add as well as these. As you can see I like the superscript & subscript and the single & double text "strike through" buttons.

    Good luck.

In excel there are formulae that can do this.

If your text is in Cell A1, put the following into any other cell:

=PROPER(A1) - Capitalises only the first letter of each sentence in cell A1
=UPPER(A1) - Puts all of the contents of cell A1 into upper case
=LOWER(A1) - Puts all of the contents of cell A1 into lower case

Nothing has irritated me but I just don't understand how you can type like this "tHANK YOU pASTURES nEW. tHAT IS WHAT i WAS AFTER" if you have the Toggle Keys option enabled! Any Caps Lock light is useless in comparison to an audible indication that you have changed case.
