To people saying there is zero risk of any comeback.... that's not strictly true. There is a minuscule risk that you will be called on by a court to verify that indeed was the person's signature and that you did witness it being signed.

I realise this isn't a big deal but the point of having a witness is so IF the OP one day denies having signed the document, the witness can attest that they in fact did sign.

Anyway hope you got it sorted OP.
the person who witness the signature is supposed to know who you are and so can verify that you are indeed the person who is signing the TR1 form.  if they don't know you, then they need to see your photo ID as proof that you are the person named on the TR1 form.
Citation required. Perfectly normal and proper for witnesses to have just been introduced to you, they're not required to investigate further. All their signature is confirming is that they witnessed somebody whom they believed to be Joe Bloggs signing that bit of paper.
    AFAIK, that's absolutely correct.

However, if the OP had asked me to witness his signature, I'd have asked for some ID, as it's sensible to take a reasonable precaution that doesn't inconvenience the OP unduly.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I also have a health condition, so I’ve been working from home since Feb 2020.

    But you see your doctor?

Would he agree to witness your signature?  There would almost certainly be a fee charged.
