A question more from curiosity than anything.  Why were the gates erected half a metre into the property rather than on the boundary?  Doing so created a problem of the OP's own making.

Visibility splay to allow safe egress to the road, I imagine.

Far better than a car accident.

If budget is no object - something like this - and then fill the space they enclose with potted plants - and erect a cctv camera - so anything 'moved' could be seen as to who did it. But it's all a bit extreme - you could just turn a blind eye and worry about more important issues.

Is that your weekend cottage, Welsh Chris?

In all seriousness, a sketch or photo from the OP would help as I am struggling to understand where the neighbour is walking or what harm it does.

It won't help. The answer is already in the thread
"If we I 'one step' in their driveway when seeing the car backed out of the drive, all hell kicks off. .. that's why I want to completely show the boundary limits "
It's a just personal dispute. Alpha male has challenged Beta male and the latter is looking for a passive aggressive response.
And before anyone starts, I can identify with this 100%. The answer lies in  being smarter than the Alpha guy and using psychological techniques as part of a long game with defined objectives rather than looking for instant solutions. Would stopping Mr A walking over a bit of paving be feasible, or  worthwhile in such a plan? I doubt it. Far better to give him the freedom to do  that tiny thing and get him where it hurts in some other way!

  • We can start by labelling the neighb as more likely suffering from Narcissistic Personality Disorder rather than being an 'Alpha Male'.

I would consider an Alpha Male to be a person with genuine charisma, inner strength and confidence. A leader who leads by example.

A thin-skinned, selfish, deluded would-be bully with a warped sense of entitlement is just that.

Whatever we call him, we've all met him! :)
Mine is disappearing, not like the Cheshire cat, but behind trees, evergreens and bamboos. It's a long process, but inexorable.

Bamboo! That's a bit brave. It's only one step removed from planting JKW. :)

I think the OP should turn that part of his driveway into a rockery. That'll stop the neighbour  walking on it. It may make getting the car out a bit of a challenge, but you can't make an omelette without breaking eggs.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
  • I would highly recommend a moat. Also a la Z boy reclining sofa so you can watch your neighbour with your telescope 24/7 in comfort.

It's a well-behaved one; we just inherited rather a lot and repurposed some. It's essential not to give the stroppy neighbour anything they could genuinely complain about. There's a 'moat' too, in the form of a stream, but again, it was always there, just not backed by laurel planted so tightly they're impenetrable now. Could have been rugosa roses....but they're pretty, so we put them in the view of the other neighbour. All part of the psychology. ;)
