EU Travel Visa after Brexit

Hi, I’m confused by this statement on “MoneySavingExpert” it states verbatim, as follows;

“From 2022 (the exact date's yet to be confirmed), you'll have to buy a £6 visa-waiver for holidays and short stays. UK nationals WON'T need a visa for short trips to EU countries (up to 90 days in any 180-day period) if they're just going on holiday. But they WILL have to fork out for what's known as a 'visa-waiver' – this'll cost €7 (£6.28) and will be issued under the 'European Travel Information and Authorisation System'”

So, do we or don’t we need to buy a visa waiver if we’re going to the EU on holiday, ie weekend breaks/7-14 day holidays?

    I think you won’t need a visa, but you will need a visa waiver similar to travelling to the US or Canada.

    All non EU citizens, who don't need an actual visa to enter EU countries, will need an ETIAS visa-waiver for a visit of any length (up to 90 days in any 180-day period). This will include anyone traveling on a UK passport.

    But not in 2021, if you read what you have written it is from an unknown date in 2022!

    .. to discourage people to come here to spend money?  Mind you people in many countries are well aware of Priti Patel and the 'hostile environment' in the UK so they probably aren't lining up in large numbers to visit when things return to relative normality.

    The 'hostile environment' as you put it is only hostile to those looking to come to the country by illegal methods.  Visitors from the vast majority of the world have always had to comply with travel regulations.

    Do you really think the so called "hostile environment" is aimed at tourism? I would expect that after Covid-19 restrictions have melted away visitors will flock back from all over the world.

    Especially since Brexit has weakened the pound so much...
