Your mum is nearly 80, and has a lung condition. You did the right thing. Please don't beat yourself up or feel angry about anything or anyone else. You obviously must have to take extra precautions because of your mum's health and you very sensibly did.
Just think to yourself that this is not about you, it's about your mum. Presents can wait, and so can everything else. In fact, they HAVE to wait. They are not important. What IS important is that you love your family and do the best you can to keep them safe. Please try not to feel badly about any of it. You did good. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. Just because you could doesn't mean you should.2

Does your mum not have anyone else as an existing support bubble - family or friend who call in on her to check she’s ok and give her some company?
If she does, then you wouldn’t be able to be nominated on a short term basis. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
she's had my sister and my brother dropping in. they live local and yet through the rest of the year, they are both too busy to call in to see there own mum. it sometimes happens like that with familys.0

Family can definitely be difficult.
How are you Clive, and do you have a support bubble local to you?0 -
Clive - if it's any consolation I think you did the right thing.
my mum also has a lung condition & we only live 4 miles from her, so live in the same tier group, but made (well she made it really) not to meet up.1 -

Better people aren't alone at this time of year. There's far more risk from deteriorating mental health than from the virus.1
