My husband has an appointment in a few weeks to investigate correcting his vision and astigmatism. I'm not sure he even sees clearly with glasses on at this point, and that's with regular checkups.2023 Fashion on the Ration: Start with 66. Nightdress - 6 = 60 remaining.9

Rather than figure out why I keep going over the food budget, I've been looking at historical cookery and have gone down the hole of Dr. Annie Gray's Instagram account. She keeps a bucket marked "Food Bucket" for the recipes that turn out too big (marked so she doesn't use it for anything nasty) and is altogether hilarious and snarky and I love it. It's also raised up a few things I'll have to try at some point: so far, medlar and quince.
Should Victory in the Kitchen become available on Kindle before Spring Break, I'll be reading it on vacation.2023 Fashion on the Ration: Start with 66. Nightdress - 6 = 60 remaining.6 -

I've got a new cardigan, but managed it coupon-free! About a decade or more ago I bought some 'bulky' yarn, back in the days when I knitted everything in thick wool on thick needles, not realising it's a good way to produce something that wears out in about the time it took to knit... anyway, I made a little cardigan with this stuff, but I followed a published pattern and it looked bad from the beginning so I never really wore it, and I had about as much leftover (I think I bought up a job lot, can't even remember where!).
Last year I started knitting the unused stuff into a cap-sleeved cardigan, but wasn't happy wth the collar and buttonbands and so on, so I paused it and shoved it, the rest of the yarn and the rubbish cardi into a bag...
On Sunday I got the bag out, and yesterday I undid the button bands and collar, and re-worked them, better, and wove in all the ends and sewed the buttons on and a length of grosgrain ribbon inside the buttonholes, and narrow velvet ribbon right round all the cut ends and inside the collar, and now I have a cap-sleeved little cardigan for no coupons! Also, I have unravelled the old cardigan, so this afternoon I shall rewind the balls into loose cakes and soak them, dry them over a few days and re-wind them into fresh cakes to re-use.

I'm learning that with the way our family needs to be eating (lower carb, no gluten or nightshades, plus stuff that hubby flat out won't eat), there's not much that can be cut so I need to focus more on eliminating waste.2023 Fashion on the Ration: Start with 66. Nightdress - 6 = 60 remaining.7 -
More spends to declare. Four pairs of briefs and six pairs of ankle socks (from sockshop - remember them? They had those funny little stores in railway stations and things and now I think they're entirely online). I've taken the coupons off my signature.Fashion on the Ration 2025 - 1.5 coupons remaining
July Grocery Challenge £115.57 of £250 spent
Declutter 7 things (net) in 2025. Done, now trying to keep it even (5 over at present).8 -
@TwibbleDee, forgive my ignorance but I've never heard of the term nightshades when talking about food plants. Google tells me the plant includes aubergine (egg plant), potatoes and tomatoes.
@diminua, I haven't seen a sockshop in years. They were the place you ran to, to get a replacement pair of tights, when you'd managed to snag yours on someone's attaché case on the train.

Ooh good choice (and love the cardigan). I can’t imagine buying clothes at the moment, I hope I get my clothes mojo back at some point.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.6

Those jeans work beautifully with that cardigan, @Laura_Elsewhere. Good choice and a bargain price.
