Gem-gem said:@Cherryfudge, that gargoyle is superb. For Christmas last year my friend crocheted me a small giraffe. I love him. (I have called it Gerald).the Gorgeous Gargoyle is @florianatwobob's . Your giraffe will be cute too... I've never consciously braved amigurami, though I did once knit a newt (as one does).
There was a lacy stitch made by wrapping the wool four times round the needle on one row and knitting into only one loop of it on the nexr row, which we talked about on here when I was given an old pattern for a net bag. Something like that knits up quicker if you decide to make the long wrap, but I do see what @Laura_Elsewhere means about not starting with a big project. My friends joke because I'm still knitting a jumper I started six or seven years ago!
I will second the buying of beautiful yarns, cheap acrylic just doesn't last as well, probably stays forever in landfill, goes stretchy and bobbly and isn't the pleasure to knit with that a 'posh' yarn is. You will want to keep your finished project.
@Laura_Elsewhere, you are the second person I've come across who doesn't like blues! I wear them because they work well on me, but I think they would drain certain complexions as surely as bright pink or orange makes me look red in the face. @Nonnadiluca, there's a lot on the Internet about selecting the colours that will look good with your skin. The ideas that worked for me were based on seasons: I'm 'spring', with fair skin, high colour and blue eyes so blues, pinks and greens are particularly good for me. I think Laura must be 'autumn' with her choice of colours!

Hi all, the news is OH is home
. I love aqua, it is one of my favourite colours. I wear quite a lot of colours but I don't like purple, mustard, bright pink or orange on me though they do suit many people. I wear a lot of green. I had my colours done once and I was spring but I must admit I do also like rust and red colours as well. What I am terrible at is coordinating what I wear so tend to wear black or navy trousers with coloured tops.
Take care everyone12 -

HUZZAH for home @Liverpool_Anne Must be a weight off having him out. Wishing gentle healing vibes his way.
Its a wet day so far here, and i am full of the autumn feels. A friend appealed for newborn size hats in jazzy colours so I will dig through what I've got and see if I can whip up a couple for her. I had been preparing for another yarn cull so this might use some up that I'd otherwise have gotten rid of.Wealth is not measured by currency8 -

Apologies Ladies, if I have missed anything momentous or if anyone has asked me a question in the last couple of days. We’re away for a long weekend and where we are staying has sod-all signal coupled with very flakey WiFi. (I am currently on a flying visit to MrT’s.)
@Liverpool_Anne hope your husband is doing better and that the clots have dissolved. Did they tell you the cause?

Cherryfudge said:TwibbleDee said:I’m fairly certain I’ve blown my coupons out of the water at this point. Three new tank top/bras (the tank tops with a shelf built in) still unaccounted for, a tiny cloth purse yesterday, and I still desperately need a new belt and to replace half my work shirts as they’re getting old and faded. Sadly, they discontinued the kind I buy, so I’m going to have to go on the hunt - my current ones are sleeveless v-necks, all the same exact style, but in colors and patterns that vary enough that very few people realize I’m wearing effectively the same shirt every day.So, the tiny purse I bought is more of a pouch, big enough for wallet, phone, lip balm, and tiny notebook. I started off with a bag on clearance that would have been $12, but luckily realized it had a design flaw that would drive me batty. I was fully prepared to pay full price ($38!) for the one I found, when the lady said it was ringing up on sale! Then she told me to wait a minute, as if it was 65% off, it would then be another 50% off that price! And it was! My bag was under $8 instead of $38.
<-Only one that's colorful.
The design would be too finicky for me to recreate - if I ask my mother, I'll end up with something reminiscent of the blue leopard-print ruffle shirt she for some reason thought I would wear (no offense to anybody who would, but most definitely not my style...especially back when I was in college!).2023 Fashion on the Ration: Start with 66. I'll be out the next few days for a staff retreat in an area that should be lovely and green (where I live is technically a desert). Wifi there is limited, no idea about cell signal yet. I'm planning to take a skein of cotton yarn (that I've already got) and set of knitting needles and see if I can't muddle through a dishcloth. I don't sit still well, and I'm getting the impression that this sort of retreat may not be the type where I should be on my computer the entire time...2023 Fashion on the Ration: Start with 66. Agg cannot find the post - but who ever mentioned Soldier of Fortune I just want to say thanks as socks are lovely - bought myself and DH some (already declared the coupons). They are lovely and soft. Bough various pairs for me and bough a pair of the 1000-mile socks for each of his and they certainly look as if they would keep your feet both cosy and comfortable on a long march - they are padded on toe, over ankle bones, heel up and over Achilles' tendon and top of foot - with some ribbing there to hold sock in place. Trying them on the padded areas don't feel any different to rest of sock, so hopefully will feel like that when out walking. Taken labels off so forget how much of each yarn is in them but mainly Merino wool as are the other socks I bought. Took two days for order to arrive as these are off the shelf, machine made. Hopefully will order from Quartermaster Stores this week.
All this talking of knitting and crochet has me looking so longingly at my needles and hooks - could not make myself give them away when I gave away my yarn - and oh so tempting but I know it will be to painful ( Pippy-Jane no its not arthritis, its MS, its how it first showed itself, pain in my hands when I was 33 yet hands look normal, no arthritis that I know of so far but I know being 65 its likely to appear). Anyways I have been looking to see if I can find a way that might get me knitting as boards a no go and have found a knitting machine that is round and costs over £100 and that is just for hat sized projects and you need to buy the smaller ones for sock sized things so debating could I manage it, still need hands to turn a handle and put yarn on and off the machine but might be doable but won't rush as spent a fortune over the years on different knitting boards etc and they are sitting on top of wardrobe and mock me, along with knitting needles. I have the sewing machines so not as if I cannot make anything but its not the same, knitting and to a lesser extent crochet is in my bones.
Oh not added back the coupons for hats yet, must do that.Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch
