Thanks @PipneyJane, both excellent ideas. I'm also within reach of Eden Camp which is a former WW2 POW camp, now running as a war museum, so I shall investigate though I'm afraid it's a little way down the list. Top of the list is chill and plan for a week on holiday next week.PipneyJane said:Try the V&A and/or the Imperial War Museum. They both have textiles departments for garments.

A huge cuppa and an illegally large biscuit, I hope.florianatwobob said:I have had a cruise through previous posts on the thread but think I’m going to save reading those properly as a treat with a cuppa and biscuit!
I like your aunt's style! I think she had been reading the Brontes? My quality of writing went up a few notches after a foray into George Eliot.

Welcome @QueenJess. (Your name makes me think of the Abbey Girls, I wouldn't be surprised if you have coppery hair
).
Do have a seat and I'll put the kettle on... there's a box of toys over there if the children want something to play with, and I'm sure I saw someone put some baking in the biscuit tin.
I think a lot of the loose floaty tops that are around at the moment would accommodate change in size and would be handy while still b/f... maybe too transient to be part of a sustainable wardrobe, but might be worth consideration?
I don't think you need feel guilty about buying new if your skirt is something chosen carefully to meet your needs. The chances are you'll get plenty of wear out of it. With regards to the tee shirt, if it were me I'd be suggesting someone bought it for a birthday or Christmas (my DH has this down to a fine art so long as I handle the actual buying)... it would have to come out of their coupons, of course...

It’s quite likely my auntie was she was a teacher all her adult life (mostly the under 11s both here and over the pond). She was a huge fan of Oscar Wilde so I have no doubt she read the Bronte’s too!

Hello @QueenJess and welcome to our virtual village hall. Please have a biscuit! I just refilled the tin with Anzac Biscuits, the very first think I learned to bake in cookery class at school. The tin is up high to prevent the dog getting to it.
Do tell us more about yourself. Do you craft?

@QueenJess, ooooh another newbie to the challenge! I’m a recent evacuee to the challenge too so we can find our way together.
Don’t feel guilty about the skirt, it sounds like it’s really going to meet many of your needs and you’ve obviously given it much thought. For me the coupons encourage mindful shopping and support my desire to become more sustainable. I’ve been moving towards second hand/pre loved for a while and you can definitely but better quality for a fraction of the price of new.✒️ Declutter 2025 🏅👗 Fashion on the Ration 2025 61/66 coupons (5 coupons silver boots)✒️Declutter 2024 🏅🏅🏅(DSis 🏅🏅)

Thanks. To be fair it was a used in store item, so I like to think that they would otherwise have binned it. Hope it works out when it arrives - I measured very carefully but you can never be 100% sure! That’s the risk of 2nd hand/online purchasing I guess.florianatwobob said:@QueenJess, ooooh another newbie to the challenge! I’m a recent evacuee to the challenge too so we can find our way together.

Not much to say… I am currently on maternity leave with a DD until March next year and also have a 4yo DS that has just started school.PipneyJane said:Hello @QueenJess and welcome to our virtual village hall. I make my own greetings cards, but don’t have much time to do anything right now.. it’s mainly survival mode! I can do some hand sewing, but am useless with a machine, pattern or anything complicated. I can sew on a button though and recently patches up DS’s jeans as he always wears holes in the knees.2025 decluttering: 5,307 🌟🥉🌟💐🏅🏅🌟🥈🏅🌟🏅💐💎🌟🏅🏆🌟🏅🌟🌟2025 use up challenge: 435🥉🥈🥇💎🏆Big kitchen declutter challenge 139/1502025 decluttering goals I Use up Challenge: 🥉365 🥈750 🥇1,000 💎2,000 🏆 3,000 👑 8,000 I 🥉12 🥈26 🥇52 💎 100 🏆 250 👑 5008 -
Well now I can fit back into my usual jeans, I can sort out half of me 😆. I have some tops I cycle round for easy bf’ing which I also used for the last baby, but I dislike them and will happily see the back of them when I’m done. Weaning will commence in a couple of weeks, so am trying to wait it out.Cherryfudge said:Welcome @QueenJess. I do have a wish list I keep for everything including clothes and I sanitise it come Xmas/birthday and distribute to DH and parents. Must be time to do that again soon! I would have to buy anything second hand myself as DH wouldn’t be able to cope with that!
Got a major birthday next year and trying hard to think of something pretty good for DH to buy me 😄.

@QueenJess, welcome, everyone is very kind and helpful on here and so knowledgeable, some have amazing talents with wool and fabric so if you ever get a moment and want to try your hand at making something they are very generous with help and advice. I have learned loads from them.
@PipneyJane it was aldi, I didn't know they did craft stuff in lidl as well. We are getting a new one very near us soon, The nearest atm is a drive away and I am now trying to only use supermarkets I can walk to unless I want something I can't get in them. We have a good choice though, mini mr a, Mr t metro, aldi and m&s food. I really should avoid the aisles of surprise and usually do but I was lookinng for some screws as I am planning to try to build a log store when I have got my hands on another pallet
Take care everyone11
