Sorry to hear you too have had a summer cold, our household have all had it. The accompanying cough has lingered in our youngest and it has sapped the energy from us parents. Wishing you a speedy recovery.TwibbleDee said:
Still here, just been fighting off respiratory crud for a few weeks and haven’t had a lot of energy by the time I make it through work and minimal housekeeping. Not the current plague, just a summer cold, and I always have a time kicking them.Laura_Elsewhere said:What needs to go on it? Haven't seen her lately - hope all is well, Twibbers!)... and the cricket pitch...Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

If I could request that the little walkway stone bridge across the borrow that I live under be suitably marked? The tall drooping willow tree marks the end of my pathway, and then a gentle turn to the right and there I amLaura_Elsewhere said:I really must get on with drawing that map for the noticeboard... I shall try to have it done for the end of the year, so we all know just where we are next year, how's that?

I fear the postie keeps missing me and I have to crawl out into the summer sunshine to the post office to collect my mail.Wealth is not measured by currency10 -
Could we whip up a tonic for you @TwibbleDee ?
I hope you are feeling better soon
Foraging time is almost upon us, and we'll be gathering in the elderberries and such. I must remember to disinfect my jars and that FIRST before boiling things up
Still awaiting the yarn though....Wealth is not measured by currency8 -
I just wash my jars in the ordinary washing-up, and put the jars, still wet, on a baking tray in a 140C oven for 20 mins, ie while I'm boiling up the jam/fruit cheese/jelly; the lids are in a pyrex jug filled from a boiling kettle. Then the hot preserves go into the hot jars, and the hot lids are screwed on - I use a small towel for handling everything, so I can get the lids on nice and tight. Once they are cooled and the lids have popped as the buttons go back down, I can wipe down the sticky outsides if needs be.CAFCGirl said:Could we whip up a tonic for you @TwibbleDee ?

Excellent thinking @Laura_Elsewhere
Once upon a time I had quite a rational brain but alas, its falling down the gap at the back and common sense eludes me

Thanks for the reminder to order elderberries. Sadly, they don’t grow here at all.CAFCGirl said:Could we whip up a tonic for you @TwibbleDee ?

As a quick & easy shortcut, I fill the jars with boiling water from the kettle, then into an oven as you do. for however long it takes to make the jam. Lids go in a pyrex bowl with another kettle of water over them.Laura_Elsewhere said:I just wash my jars in the ordinary washing-up, and put the jars, still wet, on a baking tray in a 140C oven for 20 mins, ie while I'm boiling up the jam/fruit cheese/jelly; the lids are in a pyrex jug filled from a boiling kettle.2024 Fashion on the Ration - 10/66 coupons used

Well, I've just picked up a magnificent bargain; a lovely pink Johnstons of Elgin cashmere jumper for 50p at the recycling warehouse. One drawback; someone has clearly removed - something? A line of beads? A trim of some kind? - and there are tiny holes snipped every inch or so along the bottom of the "hem" ribbing. They're completely regular, and there are no other holes; it's not moth damage. Looking at how much they cost new - and this one is otherwise in excellent nick, and beautifully soft - that runs my £289.00 insulated waterproof jacket for £3 a very close second for bargain of the century!
So - how shall I repair the bottom? First instinct was to stitch a trim around it; it's on the big side for me, but will probably get a little shrunk at some stage, so stitching might not be the best idea - though a tight overlock might work. I definitely don't have the knitting skills to sort it out, though I suppose I could hunt up a matching or contrasting cashmere yarn & crochet an edge that doesn't look too odd. Other ideas welcomed!Angie - GC Nov 25 £149.77/£450: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 40/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)4 -
Do the holes show a lot? I'd be inclined to find a sewing thread, or even embroidery thread, that matches as closely as possible and simply run stitching by hand on the inside that secures the holes... if you post it to me I will do it (and promise to post it back again to you!), but I'm not quite sure when as I may have a short work-trip coming up so I'm rubbish at making plans...2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:
