Well, I haven't spent any coupons recently, but you all seem to be spending as though it's going out of fashion! That set me to wondering how people felt and acted when rationing drew to a close. Did they feel the need to spend those coupons just because coupons had been so precious for so long, or did they throw them in the air and rush out in search of a shopping bag full of nylons? I had a google but I couldn't find anything.
Something just caught my sense of humour so I thought I'd pass it on. I'm repairing an embroidered cushion made by my Grandma: the seams need attention but the embroidery was mostly okay apart from the magenta thread which has disintegrated. I've found a near-perfect match and am learning grandma's stitch style. My Mum wasn't keen as her embroidery was neat and precise whereas Grandma's was thick and casual... what puzzled me though was why Grandma would use four strands of embroidery thread instead of one, two or three. It was only just now, drawing off thread to refill the needle, that it occurred to me that she has used two strands, doubled. Why could I not see that before?! The maths then makes sense: 3 x 2 = 6 strands to a hank of thread, so there wasn't all the waste I wondered about.
Does anyone else ever find themselves blind to what's in front of them?!
I'll try to post a picture to let you see the WIP: mine is the lonely magenta daisy, Grandma-style as I was able to use the original thread marks for guidance.
