2021 Fashion On The Ration Challenge

Hello Laura - Something I wondered about on for the yellow shirt. I have had a few long sleeved shirts (a couple were for outdoor activities but the others were normal shirts where there was a strap inside the sleeve and a button on the outside s you could secure the rolled up sleeved with the strap. It worked quite well and I found it quite practical as sometimes it is useful to have the long sleeved option for protection from sun, insects etc. I don't know if something like that would work for the yellow shirt.

I shall be delighted to oblige, @Laura_Elsewhere, weather permitting! I've yet to go this year myself, having been so conscious that my swimsuit was actually disintegrating, but the sea should be warming up nicely now!
Wondering whether a swimsuit counts as an "other undergarment" at 3 coupons?Angie - GC Aug25: £374.16/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)8 -
Well it seems that I am a trend setter with my holey knitwear. I saw an advert on fb for a designer distressed cardigan. For a mere four hundred pounds I can buy a cardigan with holes in. My gast was well and truly flabbered. What was I thinking putting them in the rag bag! Googled it and they are a thing being sold by every one from designer to primarni. Unbelievable is all I can say.9

If someone had only brought out ripped duvet covers I could have kept using a really nice one that wore through.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Mum and Dad have moved to a nursing home, and my sister and I are trying to sort out all their possessions so their bunglaow can be sold. I'm trying to get rid of their clothes. Mum bought loads and loads of clothes and doesn't seem to have thrown any of it away - would you believe six wardrobes, a chest of drawers, and three of the four drawers under their bed? Currently I have 8 large laundry bags stuffed and stacked in my front room, another half full of of bits to go to the homeless shelter, and another which has a cloak. Yes, a full length cloak in dark green loden wool, wiith a hood ending in a lyripipe. (For those not in the know, the hood ends in a long, long point, which is supposed to be wrapped around your neck like a scarf, this bit is the lyripipe.) The height of fashion in the 1400s and never come back since, and having tried it on, I can see why! What on earth am I going to do with that? I'm not sure its accurate enough to be passed on to medaeval reactment groups.2023 Fashion on the Ration: Start with 66. Nightdress - 6 = 60 remaining.9

@Cherryfudge, yes those distressed jeans are not my thing either. I remember 1 of my pupils being desperate for a pair when they were first a thing and beyond the family budget. Get a pair from the cs and get your Mum to distress them was my advice, and that was what they did
I do have some decorating / gardening clothes that are still wearable but not for being worn out in public
and they will make their way to the duster / rag bag eventually. Good luck getting a match for your repair, I love it when a favourite item can be rescued.

Thanks for reminding me - I shall still chop this one's sleeves to short, as I have some longer-sleeved ones, but also as I have psoriasis I spend most of the time with my arms bare trying to get as much UV as possible without burning (ie I stay indoors at midday). But I might do short-sleeved that can be converted to cap-sleeved, with a little buttoned strap which could be useful and look nice...

Stonewashed, or naturally faded, was what everyone wanted, but brand-new very-very-very-dark-blue denim was what you could afford... so I would be handed a brand-new jacket, stick it in a90-degree machine wash, then leave it out on the clothes-line for a week, wash it again, then use sandpaper on the raised ridges along the seams, and then tiny amounts of white oil paint smudged on by fingers over the raised ridges on the seams before a final normal wash...
