Oh well done, Thriftwizard - they look lovely!  Determined I’m going to try again this year. I’ve attempted it in the past with free/make your own pattern but perhaps I should buy a pattern.

Polly, I used a free pattern; https://indigorchid.wordpress.com/2011/11/06/sewing-underwear-the-free-pattern/. It was super-easy in the end & only took 3 sheets of A4 to print out, and two small bits of Sellotape to stick together. (Eldest's partner's scrubs took about 24 sheets, and one of DD2's makes took 50) I did have to buy one for DD2's pyjama top, because all the free ones I could find that she liked were for knit fabrics & what we had was brushed cotton.

@Rah oh I love the Great British Sewing Bee books! I have a half sewn dress somewhere, started it before a diet though so it's sat waiting for target to finish... could have had a couple of summers wear out of it by now! haha.

I've decided today for my sanity I'm going to stop working at 8pm and do some knitting! I have wool sat doing nothing and spent some Hobbycraft vouchers on patterns last year, was only thing I could find to spend them on that didn't make me spend enough for delivery/click and collect during first lock down. (Which reminds me I have another to spend! Honestly not sure how I feel about them sending me them as it makes me realise how much I've spent there, but it is for work so doesn't really count  )

Thank you for sharing the link @thriftwizard. I think I have seen that link before, I will try printing it off. The ‘copy an old pair’ hasn’t worked too well. I think I may need to buy some proper elastic (coupon free I believe) and try again.

I was going to suggest that too! Absolutely the best way to have fruit cake and, as was pointed out, fewer calories without the marzipan and icing sugar.

I'm not sure where you got the idea that you'd missed my birthday.  Very sweet of you, but you haven't. It's in August.

I've decided to declare Fridays are for Fixing and Finishing, since avoiding doing both is one of my vices.  On my mend list for tonight are a couple of knit tops where the seam is going in the armpit and the trim on the neckline of a tee-shirt.  5 minutes work at most, with the biggest effort expended being moving the sewing basket.    Then I have the Acer Cardigan to put back together - do you remember, I took it apart last summer because I'd knitted one front longer than the other? - and a collar that I'd like to make longer.  That's my list of shame.   Hopefully, I'll get the sewing done tonight.
