Thank you all for the jeans advice! I will give patching a go and cross my fingers, some of them I've been wearing anyway to walk the dog with a long jumper so it can't get any worse haha!
@thriftwizard I'm glad (though not glad!) to hear that it's not just me having problems with m&s, these jeans were on offer, but were still a lot more than my usual favourites from Matalan, and haven't lasted anywhere near as long! and were in the same clothing rotation...
@Laura_Elsewhere happy birthday!! I'm definitely up for cake! Christmas cake is my favourite! We've been saying we need to get our Christmas cake started, the March lockdown we finally got round to eating 2019's Christmas cake we quite often end up taking it on holiday with us in the summer
Sadly I know you are right with the jeans, stretch just doesn't last, and tightness definitely doesn't help either which is such a pain because I like super skinny jeans!I'm considering maybe I need to buy a pair of skinny jeans that I like the fit of just for best, and wear something straighter with less stretch for day to day...
@CapricornLass the sashiko technique looks beautiful! I'm not sure these jeans are worth that much effort but I will definitely keep it in mind for things that are. The Japanese have some lovely techniques for repairing things.I hope you know your capable, & brave, & significant.
even when it feels like your not....7 -

My goodness, in barely the blink of an eye another 10 pages have appeared! Don't mind me whilst I catch up with you all!
Very impressed with all the mending going on. I am wearing a pair of cheap leggings that are full of holes in the inner thigh seams (!) but they're just so comfy.
I decided to get the sewing machine out last week as I got myself the Great British Sewing Bee Sustainable Style book for Christmas.
So far I've made a blouse out of an old tablecloth that I'm not sure if I'll ever wear as it still kind of looks like a tablecloth, and a lovely set of summer pyjamas (Cami and shorts) out of a rather nice cotton jersey fabric, part of which was previously a cotbed fitted sheet I made some years ago and no longer require, and part from the leftover unused fabric from the same that's been sitting in my stash ever since. Rather pleased with the results although it took me 3 times as long as I expected, a day and a half later I was thoroughly fed up with sewing by the end of the process!
No coupons used! 😊:j10 -
Rah, it always takes me longer than I think to make anything. Chiefly because I usually end up unpicking several seams after sewing things back to front or in the wrong place! Well done, my aim is to try and remake/alter more garments. Sounds as if you’ve got off to a really good start.

Thanks everyone for your commiserations, especially @Betharooni, @CapricornLass and @joedenise. I've done March, September and December year ends and I have to say that December is the worst, because everyone was still off between Christmas and New Year but there was no compensation for that in the timetable. Only two deliverables left and then I'm free.... (Also, I work with a finance system that makes an abacus look modern, which doesn't help.)
@Laura_Elsewhere, that mend is beautiful. Well done. If you didn't know where to look, you'd never be able to spot it.

ETA: Book review, please, @Rah. How many patterns does the book have? What are they for? Did you have to trace them out/draw them onto paper yourself?"Be the type of woman that when you get out of bed in the morning, the devil says 'Oh crap. She's up.'
