I'm unable to work at the moment due to long term mental health issues. In future if I was to work part time, How would one be expected to pay rent and bills ? As part time wouldn't cover it...
Would I be eligible for any benefits to fill the defecit ?

This isn't really a job-related question so much as a benefits question, so perhaps asking on the benefits board would get you more helpful answers: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/categories/benefits-tax-credits.
In the meantime, https://www.turn2us.org.uk is an excellent site which should help you to work out what you might be entitled to, because as usual there is always an 'item depends...' when trying to answer your question.
Hope your health will improve in the months to come.4 -
You would have to claim Universal Credits (UC).

What bills do you currently have and what can you reduce.venomx said:I'm unable to work at the moment due to long term mental health issues. I know you were looking at buying a car, this with insurance might make it cheaper to get public transport for the moment, or would this open up more part time working?
You can post all your bills on the board and the people on that forum are brilliant at helping to savr even a few pounds when you think it can't be done.

Yeah im still waiting for a response from the DVLA regarding my medical condition. In theory yes, in future it would help massively with potential employment. I currently have a concessionary bus pass which is somewhat helpful, however bus services round here aren't great and you can't use the pass before 9am or even 930am on some other buses74jax said:

I was concerned how on earth people with part time jobs would be expected to pay bills without some sort of benefit.0 -
How do you mean? Even if you work full time you might not cover bills but I don't think its expected that others will pay your bills if your income doesn't meet outgoings?venomx said:Thanks as usual for the good advice, thank you.

There's loads of ways to reduce bills to meet income, I understand not in all cases and especially when like yourself it's due to health reasons. But I think it's worth pointing out everyone can struggle no matter if part time or full time.
Honestly SoA board on here is 🌟 amazing 🌟 for reducing people's bills.
Do you have an estimated income and what are your out goings? You can house share, rent a room, etc. Depending on part time hours you could even ditch the car idea and keep the free bus pass that will save loads, just make sure getting the car isn't more expensive. The SOA board on here can help with that and other ideas.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....3 -
Take your current gas, electric, water, council tax (in full less 25% discount and ÷ by 10 or 12), rent as per tenancy agreement, sky, home insurance, food and other regular outgoings eg monthly prepay prescription charge, peak time bus pass. That's the minimum you need to take home a month to cover outgoings.
As you get PIP (assuming you still receive it) that gets deducted from the minimum you need to earn and is the absolute lowest you can work for.
Then look at things like phone, sky, hobbies and interests and reduce the costs of them that enables savings to be built up or allows a lower paid job to be taken.
Have a play with entitled to or turn to us benefits calculators to see what you would be entitled to claim, if working.
Then re-read all your previous posts as everything has been covered before, including UC.
As a side note, your current bus pass is to enable you can get out and about, same as pensioners, hence being off peak.
Many people don't have everything they want when working, they compromise and prioritise what they need.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.1 -

Could you explain what you mean please ?

Take for example all your outgoings and expenses, if you were to pay them, come to £1000 a month.
Deduct PIP payment, pretend that's £400 a month.
That means you only need to find a job paying a take-home pay of £600 a month (£1000 - £400 = £600)
Obviously you know how much all your outgoings are, plus the rent, council tax and you can look up how much a prepaid prescription card is and how much a peak bus pass is for your area. All of that equals figure A.
You know how much PIP you receive, that's paid whether you work or not. That is figure B
A - B = your minimum take-home pay from a job.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.1 -
Understood, thank you !
