Help with dripping

Hi,
I am hoping someone can help with this issue, it's driving mad and very worrying.

Every time my son's go in the shower, and they have turned off the shower...after a few minutes I can hear a dripping sound. It's not for very long and it's more like a thud sound (if that makes sense), like it's dripping from a height.
I had a plumber round to service the boiler and asked him if he would take a look, he took the bath panel off and said the floor was dry, and there were no drips. He ran both the bath and shower.

The wall beneath an area of the tiles were damp so he said to re grout the tiles and replace the silicone which I have done.

Unfortunately it's still dripping! I have tried filling the bath and letting the water out, using the shower as normal, and running the shower into the bath without touching the walls...and it's still dripping!

Yesterday, as my son had just had a shower, I was putting some rubbish in the bin (below the bathroom where all the outside drainage pipes are)....and I could hear dripping, but no sign of any water.

As yet there is no sign of any water damage to the ceiling.

Has anyone any ideas?

Thank you in advance
Michelle

  • the 'thud' sounds like it's dripping onto plasterboard below, possibly from the bath drain trap. Will the bath surround panel come off to allow scrutiny?

    Thanks for your reply.
The plumber had the b,ath panel off, unfortunately it's wood, so he had to cut a piece out to remove it.
As he said that there was no dripping under the bath, repairs have been done to the part that was cut out, and it's been siliconed back in.
I do take you're point though about the drain trap. My son said it could be under the floor so the plumber wouldn't necessarily see it. Would that account for the noise outside?
I think the bath panel will need to come off again, it's not a job I can do, will have to get the plumber back out to take a look.

    Thanks again for your reply.

What sort of shower is it?

Could it be just the shower pipes emptying in to the bath or shower tray? This would leave no obvious trace, especially if it was already wet from showering. Our shower tends to release a spatter of water anything up to a couple of hours after using it.

It's a mira power shower (combi boiler), the shower is over the bath.

    Thanks for your reply.

    I've never heard it before.
I've been working from home since March, not heard it before now. I work below where the bathroom is, I start at 6.30 am so the house is very quiet so I can hear everything.
    Thanks for your reply.

In my bath the remaining water makes sound just by dripping to the trap under the bath.

As we speak, my son has just had a shower, there is a dripping sound in the living room, and outside where the pipes are (but no sign of water).
I hope you are correct in what you say, would make my life a lot easier.😁
    Thanks for your reply.
  • Are you sure it's a dripping noise & not just the waste pipe expanding with the hot water running through it ?
If you can't hear a "dripping" noise all the time the shower is in use I doubt it's a leak
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
