Cheapest pay as you go sim

Am i correct in thinking that i could order a three data sim and add £2 credit and use that to make calls for 3p a minute?
if not, then i also have an old 123 sim from three i never used. Could i still use that and receive the cheap rates not currently available to new sim orders? I believe minimum top up is £10 for this option though?

  • Have you considered 1p Mobile (EE network)?
They do require an intitial £10 though. Also, to keep the account active, a £10 credit every 120 days.

I don't think i'd use that much credit as to need to top up that often to be honest

You could take a look at Asda Mobile (EE). Your initial top up can be any amount £1-30. You don't need to top up at set intervals after that but you do need to make a call or send a text every 180 days to keep the SIM active. Calls and texts are 8p/min and 4p/min respectively.
  • Yes iv got data sim. You can top up £2,and it uses the 321 rates. It also acts like a normal three sim,if you need a bundle, but only if you ring 444, and not do it on the website

The old 123 sim may no longer work as they need to be used at least once every 6 months or so to keep activated. One way to find out is to put it into a spare phone and dial 444.
  • Ok ok thanks for the useful advice everyone.
i tried the older 321 sim and it seems to work, however i think that's a minimum £10 top up which is not as useful as the lower £2 of the data sim.
i just inserted the data sim and it said you are on the older type of tariff if you want to change to 321 press 1. When i did it said it was unavailable, so perhaps that's because it's Christmas Day. I will try again later.
  • Ignore that . It says that on my data sim to. You are in fact on the 321 tariff

I stuck an old data reward sim in a phone last week and it still worked  the my3 account is still active.

I can't remember using it this year.

Handy for the 200mb a month free, but bundle options limited.
    (not tried phoning)

You can still order these data reward and they come with 321 payg rates not the new Payg which is much more expensive for low used people.
    £2 min top up.

I like the 321 Payg  as you get a better set of bundles.
£5 min on line with some free 48hr data every top up

I use the 1day 50p data add on when out of WiFi range on a day out

Setup a my3 account for each sim makes things easier.

We use data abroad I don't think anyone comes close to 3 for that.
