Not pre judging but your choices may be more limited this year, especially as an announcement on new CV tiers is supposedly imminent
For instance I'm in tier 2, my "normal s/ms are in T4, I am supposed to use the T2 sm near me and not travel into the T4 ones
Our local M & S, in T4, was turning T2 addresses away. May be an exception but something to be aware of
How do M&S ask for addresses? What’s to stop someone to say a postcode in T4? If they have a relative or friend living just over the T4 border, use their postcode
We are in tier 2 until tomorrow and our local pubs have been asking as well. You have to take in proof of address. So unless you have a letter with your name and address on or a bank statement, you weren't served. Shops were doing the same.
I hope they'd accept a driving licence too.  I'd guess more people carry a driving licence around with them than they do an odd letter or bank statement.

I am sure they would but as I don't drive, I wouldn't know to be honest

  • I’ve never heard of any shop asking for proof of address, not here anyway.

Hard to see how they can prevent these yellow ticket scrums, however is it worth saving a few quid and possibly catching Covid? Bad enough in every day store shopping without the daily ruck for a bargain.

Think if you live in a lower tier and got a higher tiers a few miles away, shops are more reluctant to seek proof of address. Nearest T4 is Peterborough and that’s 45 miles away.

I  was in a Morrisons (late November I think, I don't shop there often) and I could see a queue inside the shop - it was for a chance to view the yellow stickered items which had been placed on one of their tiered trolleys.  It was being supervised by a member of staff.  I don't know whether they limited people on the number of items they could select but it was obviously an orderly queue, not a scrum.

We were tier 2 and tier 4 was a quarter of a mile away. We had people from Guildford coming in and bragging that they were from tier 4 and hugging etc so the local shops and pubs quite rightly starting asking for proof of living in Waverley

Went to Tesco yesterday they had very little surplus stock, I think they did not over order so have less to get rid off. Still selling some veg for 29p.

Managed to buy in Sainsburys yesterday TTD fresh sausagemeat, cocktail sausages and chorizo pigs in blankets for 60p each, two 2.5kg Maris Piper potatoes for 20p each and 3 loaves of Burgen seeded bread for 20p each. There was absolute loads of bread. Perhaps the "must buy 18 loaves of bread just in case" tribe on Christmas Eve and Eve Eve weren't in.

Today and next couple of days is the best time to buy reductions on "normal food" such as stewing steak, mince, ready meals etc as these were the dates on products when customers were buying Christmas food 22-24th
  • ASDA were giving their veg away for free yesterday.
