Anyone else received SMS from Barclays asking to reply back?

Options
I received a SMS from 60310 asking me if I have any other tax residency and to reply with YES or NO or STOP to opt out.
The thing is, I've never had any account with Barclays. I only have a Barclaycard credit card. I asked Barclaycard support about this and they said I need to ask Barclays "about my current account" (which I don't have) as Barclays and Barclaycard are two separate entities.
Also, a little bit suspicious thing to me is that they did not mention my name or last digits of my account/card in the SMS.
It's just "Hi, we've reviewed your account and found we don't have tax residency and citizenship information for you. We'll send you another text from 60310 that you'll need to reply to".
The sender is Barclays, but this can be spoofed as far as I know.

Do you think it's a genuine message or some kind of scam? Shoud I reply?
I'm not sure and the customer support at Barclaycard didn't help much.

If a financial institution needs to know your tax residency status (which is legitimate of course) then you can hardly opt out of informing them of the situation.   On that basis alone, I'd ignore any text which implied I could opt out of telling them.

    It is a genuine text.

Several people have asked Barclays on Twitter about it. Those with Pingit accounts (or who've had them in the past) seem to be the main group getting it.

I would formally, but politely, complain to Barclays for sending me an SMS [that Barclaycard thinks Barclays have sent to me]. Let them sort out whether it's a genuine text.

But don't respond to the text.

NB.: I have both, a Barclays current account and a PINGIT account, and did not receive any texts from Barclays about tax residency or citizenship.

    Thanks!
So can I actually opt out? :D

So have I. OH only has Pingit though and got one.

If Barclays are telling customers on Twitter that they are genuine texts then that should be good enough.

I wouldn't expect to have to rely on someone on a forum telling me that Barclays said on Twitter that some text message I received is a genuine text message from Barclays, even if the Barclays Twitter team never saw the text message I got, and even if the text message as such cannot be identified as genuine.
  • I have recently had messages relating to TV licence refund ( don't have a TV), a Halifax illegal activity on my account (I don't have a Halifax account) and another one for a bank I can't remember, which I also didn't have.  There is no way that I would reply to a mesage out the blue like that, particularly if it didn't at least identify the account or name in question..
