I'm not expecting it to happen any time soon really.  Social distancing isn't going to suddenly be a thing of the past even with vaccines on the horizon. It would cause Boots bad publicity if there were hundreds of people out and about for it.
Wouldn't surprise me if the bulk of what's left is returned to the warehouse for an online sale later in the year once the sales have dried up.
Could also have dropped the price incrementally by going 60% before 70% to shift a bit more so there's less to sell at 70%.
Theres a few nice bits in mine but as always excessively overpriced in the first place. If I don't get anything this year it won't be the end of the world as I have plenty of stuff from sales gone by that could do with using first anyway.
It won't go to 60% as the shops dont have the signs and posters for it whereas they have it already for the 70%.
As for the people being out their stores are still busy, apparently our local ones are 5 times as busy as first lockdown, so a one hit wouldn't really cause a stir.
I realise it won't go 60% off now, too late for that, it's just a suggestion and something they could have considered to squeeze a few extra sales rather than just leaving more to sell at 70%. Don't know why they don't do it every year tbh, they could just whip up a few over stickers to stick on the existing POS rather than produce full new posters.  I'm sure Boots have some sort of 'plan B', I'd be surprised if they haven't as we've all known for ages this pandemic isn't going to be a thing that's suddenly going to go away.
As for the high Street, we all know this lockdown isn't like the first one but you're not telling me if Boots drop to 70% it's not going to generate extra footfall and non-essential travel.  I can't see anything happening in stores until the high Street is fully open again and that sounds like it would be March at the earliest.  The only other option is to return it and sell online which seems the most logical to me, unless they're going to pack it up and just bring a small amount out at a time.

The 70% stuff arrived during this lockdown so I’d expect it at some point. But we shall wait and see

Doesn't mean their plans can't change.
It could even be just left for an instore summer sale, once the situation has improved.
They normally have a bit of a clear out in the summer anyway and let's face it, not many of us are going to be jetting off anywhere this year so they could get away with a reduced amount of floor space on sun preps for a few days.

In the first lockdown my local Boots had the cosmetic etc aisles all roped off. You could only go to the dispensing bit and the 'medical' items (the OTC stuff), think that also applied to their shampoo, shower gel aisles I can't remember, but I suppose you could ask a member of staff if you needed it. You certainly couldn't browse the aisles. That's not been the same in subsequent lockdowns, plus there's more people out. At the beginning lots of employers had to close their premises as they weren't covid secure, now they could be open. Fast food places (eg maccys) chose to close for the same reason, until they could put safety procedures in place and shops weren't allowed to be open for click and collect unlike now. All that will add to the increase in customer numbers now compared to then.

For that reason I would expect a 70% off sale to generate more footfall than just going by the increase in customers since lockdown1.  I think Boots would attract negative publicity if it went ahead though. My sister works for a non essential High St retailers and says from the beginning they have worked towards the likelihood of them being allowed to re-open around Easter of after (I know it's all speculation).

No, it changed pre-Covid times to around the last Friday in January but like last year, I'm assuming it's going to be later this year as they can't really be seen to encourage the non-social distancing it would attract, and its not realistic for everyone to prove their jab status or do an LFT before entering, lol. I know other stores have had sales at 70% but the Boots sale is a different scale!

It will likely depend on the government guidelines when the next stage is announced, they're unlikely to do anything before then I wouldn't have thought.

Masks and home working 'guidance' may well continue until March, even if other restrictions ease, so I guess it will be up to Boots to make a 'sensible' decision once restrictions are next relaxed, and they're able to assess the latest guidance.
