Eligibility calculator says I am accepted but after applying I get refused can I complain

Options
I use the eligibility calculator on Currys PC World website that says good news you'll be accepted then after applying it declined me. Does anybody know if I can complain and get the hard search taken off my credit file as I wouldn't have applied if the eligibility calculator said I wouldn't be accepted.
Thanks in advance

No the hard search will be correct as you have applied for a financial product whether you were approved or declined.

Are you sure it said you would be accepted? Or did it say you were eligible to apply?
Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.

This has happened to me in the past. I'm assuming you were told you were eligible so then proceeded to apply and they did a hard search and refused you. That is what happened to me, although it wasn't with Currys.

However, before I complained I contacted the company and asked to speak to a senior member of staff. I explained what had happened and said that I would not have applied had I not been told via their own site that I was eligible.

They DID remove the hard search from my credit report. And they did it quite quickly, too.

So I would say that you have nothing to lose by contacting Currys and just calmly telling them what has happened and what you'd like them to do.

The fact that you used their own site to test your eligibility, rather than using a comparison site like MSE for example, means that they are more likely to listen to you.

  • What does the small print on the eligibility calculator site have to say about your chances of actually getting the product ?
    Did you read it ?

I really do not know how you managed to achieve this, because I don't understand how lenders can remove a hard search once they have done it?

I mean I have been in a similar situation and when I called they said there is absolutely nothing they can do about it.,

I've just tested the eligibility calculator, and what it actually says is:

     You're eligible to apply

Great news, you’re eligible. Just these few questions and your ID to complete.

So not quite the guaranteed acceptance you seem to think you were given.

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

alll eligbility checkers and all quotations given by lenders directly (not just through a comparison site) will say that it's just that... a quote subject to further checks.

So how on earth the poster above managed to overturn a hard search I'll never know!

Whoops, missed that. I'm normally better at spotting the resurrections.

So basically, you are saying that I was lying? I can assure you that it's perfectly true. Just because you were not successful does not mean that others can't be.

And anyway, as Batesy1976 said, this is an old thread. Resurrected, I suspect, just for an argument.

Just an FYI, this is yet another old thread that Adams18 has dragged up for no apparent reason.  I think the OP is long gone.
Just to challenge me, I think. Sorry about that.
