  • I don't seem to be getting anywhere at the minute. gas fire broken, washer-dryer has died and my heating has packed up. I have no contingency fund as that was my plan after I'd cleared my debts. So, I'm just pondering what I can do other than stick about 2k onto a card and still manage not to freeze to death and keep clean. My shower also runs off my boiler and no gyms open.I can't have come this far just to add a stack of debt back on.

Hi, never rains and all that.
How about British Gas for the boiler repair? - this will give you heat, hot water for shower and radiators as a place to dry some clothes (have you got a maiden/clothes airer?)....... it may space payments out for you so you don't have to put it all on a card.

and washing machines don't have to be too expensive. Maybe that can go on the card?
Just a couple of things that sprung to mind and didn't want to read and run as I understand that you're probably well naffed off (I know I would be).
It's a set back but try to not let it undo the progress you've already made.

  • Ah thanks THE-LONG-AND -WINDING
I used to have a British gas service thing but they started contracting out their engineers and when I got a Worcester/ Bosch condensing boiler which is pretty brilliant. Expensive but it cut my heating bills by half some of the engineers wouldn't touch them because of the electronics so that was pointless. The washer/dryer I can get someone out for £99 but I pay if they fix it or not? The fire needs replacing even a cheap naff £299 fire works out about £550 fitted tonight I'm going next door for a shower and getting some hot water bottles and going to bed about 8.30pm. Something will turn up.

You can often pick up those oil filled portable radators on facebook marketplace, I got some for my mum when her heating broke down

  • Hi paid 1.90 from account and £85 from fuel pot so £1015.15 this month, total so far this year £2065.40/12000. I am worried about coming out of lockdown as this has helped to pay debt and saved on fuel costs which then goes towards the debts. Going to have to be strong and not accept all social meals out and restrict myself which will be hard, not good at saying no to friends 😢
