Manufacturer guarantee when buying from ebay

Am interested to buy a printer from eBay listed as opened but unused? It is listed as guaranteed for 1 yr but will have to register in the manufacturer website. Just wondering if buying electronic goods on eBay whether they come under guarantee? Thanks

You are basically buying a 2nd hand item, so there is no guarantee that any warrantee will pass from original buyer to you. Ebay do not offer any guarantees, a business seller may have something detailed on the listing- but remember that after 30 days ebay won't be interested if seller suddenly does a runner.
For electronics you have no idea how old it is and without an original receipt may not even be able to register it. This has bene a major issue this year for hot tubs on ebay or other third party sites where lay Z spa have refused all warranty claims through third party purchases.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Few years ago I purchased a Braun electric toothbrush on eBay
Seller had received it as a gift, did not want it, still sealed in the box
Braun honored the warrenty

Vax refused to honour guarantee when I bought, via ebay, one of their stick vacumm cleaners somebody had received as a wedding gift & didn't want. They would only cover guarantee if I could send original purchase receipt, not the ebay one. I'd not risk buying an expensive unused electric item from ebay again personally. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Your guarantee/warranty on an item bought in the UK lies with the person or organisation that you bought it from, not with the manufacturer.
Some manufacturers will add an additional, goodwill, warranty, but that also allows them to set the terms of the warranty. Some allow transfer of warranty from the original owner, some don't. Some require registration to activate the warranty. Some require that the item can only have been purchased from an authorised reseller. Some require that the item has had regular maintenance. You really need to contact the manufacturer to find out what their policy is.

The other problem would be of course determining the date that the original purchase was made (unless the seller passed on their receipt to you).0

Purchased an Anker power bank off eBay a few years back which stopped working after a few months. I contacted Anker and they said the computer says no.
They only give warranty if purchased direct or via Amazon but the order is fulfilled / sold by Anker.0 -
