Do you send anything Special Delivery then check the time

I sent 2 special deliveries out on Monday. 1 arrived next day but the other just said 'its on its way'. The second item is now showing up as delivered but I have not had confirmation of this from the customer. If it has arrived today it is 2 days late so rather a poor show for RM's usually excellent service. I the first item says it was delivered from our *** office before the guaranteed time but the late item just says delivered so I think what was said earlier in the thread is correct ie. delivered means delivered late!0

For the last two week ALL the special delivery items I have received and ALL the ones I have sent were delivered later than the 1pm deadline. That's 100%!
It is our normal postie who brings the SD's and he's never here before 1pm - usually more around 1.30 to 2.00 pm. For our items sent, it's not been a matter of hours, it has been an extra day - the dates/times per their website agree exactly with the information given to my by the recipient.
I have quite a collection of claims going through at the moment.
What with that, and first class packets taking an average of a week to be delivered, the Post Office is in a really bad way at the moment.0 -

thats down to the delivery office manager.its his duty to ensure SD items are their on time.
its doesnt matter when your postman gets their.if he's arriving late then he should be notifying his PHG/manager it will arrive late and they get it delivered by another means.
remember those late starts all those people said were nothing and the posties should just get on with it.well this was the the inevitable result given RM havent changed other factors.
posties are on the street to 2.30/3pm so why is SD still 1pm?
unfortunatly if an SD item is misdirected then they can get delayed.remember they travel in sealed yorkies so if someone in say glasgow puts one in an edinburgh york by mistake then by the time it gets to the delivery office its unlikely this can get back to the proper glasgow DO in time.0 -
I have just checked some of my Record Delivery slips and one actually has the electronic signature through :j . Great I thought I'll have a look to see who signed it (just out of interest). Well, in the print name box it says REDDROP with just a squigle for the signature but then in brackets after the sig it looks like it says Postie
.
So why do we pay for the mail recipient to sign for the item when it looks like the Postie has done. And although the Track and Trace says it has been delivered, how do I know it has? (by the way I'm sure it has as I have heard no moans from the customer (yet))

posties sign items for loads of customers.many are happy with this.
remember RM deliver to addresses not people.
i often get complaints from customers when a postman doesnt sign for an item!!
okay some prefer the postman not to.
look at it this way the postie has put that they signed the item so any fallout will fall at their feet so i dont see an issue for you as a seller0 -
But I thought the whole point of signed for mail, be it recorded or special delivery, was that it was signed for by the person it was given to who answered the door! If the postie signs for it then anyone in the house could have got it. Not a problem when you trust your family/housemates but could be if you don't or things have a habit of 'disappearing'...
**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D

its not RM policy and a postie can get in very hot water if it goes wrong.
i would never sign for a special but do it for recordeds(not all though)
only customers i know.
remember it helps loads of customers especially given RD items are held for 7 days.
there are arguments for both sides. however if RM clamp down it would increase the amount of items being handled in the delivery offices and inconveience more customers than it helps.
like so many things,RM knows this goes on a turns a blind eye as it helps to keep things running0
