What should 7 month old be able to do?

My son crawled at 5 months but didn't sit unaided till nearly 7 months. I believe that it was just in his personality to be a very active baby so that's what he felt motivated to do. He never liked sitting still so he didn't want to learn how! Other babies are different, they like to sit in a seat but they might be more interested in playing with toys or watching a mobile.
There are lots of different aspects to the development check and you'll probably find that your baby can manage most of them, he might even be advanced in some skills! I'm sure he'll be OK. If any smug mummies start boasting that their child was running marathons at seven months, just ignore them

I understand that by this age they should be able to...

Or is this just what it feels like, for you?

The check is only for piece of mind that there is nothing obviously wrong. They are going to be more interested in whether you have any concerns.
To show you how unimportant an eight month check is.....they've recently scrapped it here (I'm in Kent). They just tell you to contact the doctor if you have any concerns."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Just like the PPs have said... please try not to worry. My ds didn't crawl until he was 11 months (two of my friends children were walking by then) didn't walk until he was 18 months old and, at two years old, was only saying lots of single words (no linked phrases such as 'daddy gone car' etc which are common by this age). He didn't get his first tooth until he was almost a year old and had very little hair until he was two either!
....... fast forward a while... he's 22 years old now! He has just graduated with honours and got a job as a research scientist at Cambridge University. In his spare time he plays rugby and does martial arts.... he got there in the end!

Meanwhile... all those mothers who boasted endlessly about their little darlings (and worried me half to death) have had to watch my ds overtake their offspring! :T :T :T ... sorry to sound so unbearably smug... it's a common disease amoung mothers!

Well done to him! :T"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

Fret not all babies are different, there is no set script. Hes an individual and will do what he wants when hes good and ready! just love and protect him and he'll be fineMy son has his developmental check next week and worrying as he hardly does anything sits for seconds unaided, hates being on his tummy0 -
My sons 8&1/2 months & is like speedy gonzaleese (sp?) in his walker but until about a month ago hated lying down. He's now happy on his back & for small periods on his back. His arms have started to strengthen as he holds himself up on his arms for longer now, & is trying to crawl with his back legs. He can also balance sitting up for short periods. Every morning I put him on his tum for his daily execrcise until he gets fed up with it. However while "chatting" to himself (or others) he clearly says "ma ma" "dada" "ewwwo (how his dad says hello to him) & this morning said "b-bye" so the speech before movement ( or visa versa) does seem to ring true. With my older son it was the other way round, crawling at 5 months, walking at 9months, but even at the age of 3 it was hard to understand his speech.
In other words I think your baby is fine, theres no need for you to worry, it'll all come in time & when LO is empting cupboards, grabbing things they shouldnt, then you'll wish they still couldnt crawl, lol.You cant take a step forward with both feet on the ground0
