My boy didn't either then in the space of a month rolled over, sat up, crawled (for a whole week) then got up and walked (no cruising stage at all). And has't stopped since...
Ignore the charts unless you're really worried. All children do things in their own time.... and there is a big range of 'normal'.0 -
My dd did nothing until she was 2 then did it all at once.0

Snap! My daughter had her 7 month check up yesterday and she is exactly the same.
The HV wasn't too worried but said give her a ring if she isn't sitting up unaided by 9 months old. She advised keeping going with frequent short bursts of tummy time as it strengthens their chest and back, and she'll grow to like it eventually!
Is he putting weight on his feet if you hold him up, and is he reaching out for toys then swopping them from hand to hand? That's the other things she checked. Here I go again on my own....0 -
I find this site useful as a guide only.

My son is 12 months and although he's walking well (considered advance), he only has 2 words mama and dada and they aren't specific to us which is something they suggest most can do from 11 months. Yet he can stand alone and has done for a few months and that's a 13 month milestone. We think he's concentrating on his physical movement and the language will be a lot later.
He's got a little friend whose 10 months and still getting to grips with crawling and he wasn't sitting up properly until 8 months.
Was he a bit prem? That can account for milestones to take longer.
Try not to worry until you see the experts.0 -
babies all reach different milestones at different times, if they all reached them at the same time it would be boring.
try not to worry. There's someone in my head, but it's not me0 -
you need to relax and not worry all children develop at different speeds I have 3children all of whom developed at different rates your built in mothers instinct will alert you to any real problems just enjoy your son while he is a baby he will soon be an active toddler0

Hi
Same as Anthillmob babies do things a different times all my three were fairly active in movement such as crawling but none sat early and all were slow to speak. All three failed the two year check for speech development although you wouldnt belive it these days!
The oldest could role at 4 months, drag herself across the floor at 5 months, crawl and stand up at 6 months, climb up stairs at 8 months but still didnt sit until around 9 months?!
As long as your baby is happy most of the time and is alert then dont worry. Some will communicate verbally, some just watch and take it all in, others like mine too active to concentrate on anything other than getting somewhere.:jMay 2013 new beginnings:j0 -
Just to reassure you, my daughter couldn't sit up at six months.
By eight and a half months, she walked across the room to my dad and then never looked back.
She didn't have a tooth until she was almost 15months old but had long long hair that was thick and glossy.
She toilet trained about the time she got her first tooth!
Children develop at different rates ALWAYS. If she is forward with something, then she will probably be slower with something else. Your gut instinct will tell you when there is a problem, and until that day comes, just enjoy your time with her without stressing out by comparing them with your friends. It's always the secretly paranoid mums who are the worst for bragging about their little darlings amazing progress!
This time is so special, and over so quickly so just enjoy!:hello:  please play nicely children !0 -
I saw something on one of the morning tv programs recently which made sense to me - a doctor said that often babies only have the brain development for language or movement. If a child is particularly advanced with one, then the other may be slow.
DS was sitting up at his 7 month check, (just, and with pillows behind him) but loathed, hated and despised being on his front. HV told me I should MAKE him crawl but neglected how I could force a baby to do this...:p
Anyway, DS now crawls but did so at 10 months, and is cruising furniture at 11 months. Honestly, unless you feel something is wrong, don't worry too much - most walk and talk and are toilet trained by the time they start school...lol.The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0 -
our 7 month old walked in and filled in the development check form himself
I'm not sure if he gave himself a pass mind0
