  • Well if anything this year has proven that absolutely nobody knows anything about anything that's going to happen in the future

The past year and the events we've experienced are a timely reminder that investing has uncertain outcomes. Stick to the well known basic investment rules and you won't go wrong. This time is never different.

Sorry you can't tempt me to click the link - their output is just internet clutter.
  • By this time next year there'll be memes like
    "2020: exists
    2021: hold my apocalypse"

Thrugelmir, if I may ask:- (1) Are you frugal by nature and, in particular, in your attitude to money and investing?

    (2) Your username suggests you may be rather familiar with the writings of JRR Tolkien. Is this true and, if so, do you think the very sound advice given by e.g. Gandalf and Aragorn, to name but two of Tolkien's greatest characters, can be applied to personal financial management and, in particular, to the continual learning process involved in investing one's money wisely?

The prediction for Netflix Inc was very wrong, one of a few shares that have done well this year.
Was there a good reason to predict a bad year for Netflix Inc?
Pinterest Inc, Gold and Silver have had a very good year, as predicted.

There are no economic experts when it comes to predictions. Many people, including myself, were predicting a crash this year. I expected worse. I doubt anyone predicted the cause.

It’s a case of events dear boy, events. We could be hit by an asteroid next year, or visited by benevolent aliens who have discovered the secret of perpetual cream cakes.

We all have individual experiences over our lifetimes. What we are exposed to shapes our views and understanding of the wider world.  As our investment horizons shorten then cumulative years of experience come to the fore.

Norse mythology, in particular the Gods, has been an interest of mine for a very long time.
