Condenser or Heat Pump?

Morning
Just looking at replacing my end of life condenser dryer. Someone mentioned that I look at a Heat pump model due to lower energy consumption. I know little about the difference. What do people recommend?

Thanks in advance

A condenser dryer is cheaper than a heat pump one and works well in a cool room or out building.
A heat pump one works a bit better/quicker and works in warm or cool rooms.
IMO a condenser one is the one to get unless in a warm room.
Our condenser dryer is now 20 years old and still working fine.

We have a bosch condenser which has worked fine for many years (Jan 2013) being in a family of 5 and used summer and winter as thye dont like washing lines   except for clogging up the drain sump and the belt breaking
Both issues were easy to fix myself with some help form you tube

We made the mistake of replacing our venerable, but broken condenser with a heat pump dryer and really wished we hadn't.  It takes hours to dry a load.
  • Personally i would go with a standard condenser dryer, where the heat pump is more expensive, and takes much longer to dry the clothes.
the £100+ or so you will save, will pay the additional power costs for 3-4 years, and also the normal condenser will likely be more reliable as they are much simpler than the heat pump units.
  • Thanks to everyone for their responses. Condenser dryer it is.

When we looked at replacing our old vented tumbledryer we looked at both condensor and heat pump.
According to the figures the condensor used about 5.7kWh and took 195 minutes for a full load, while the heat pump used 2.18kWh and takes 260 minutes.  So it does take longer but uses significantly less electricity (and length of time was not important for us).  In the end we went for heat pump (but then it was on offer at only a few quid more than the condensor).
