Car insurance declined

Hoping there’s someone here that can give some advice.

so basically I had a letter this morning stating that my insurance that I have just taken out has been declined. I spoke to them and the reason they have given is that I failed to notify them that I have had insurance cancelled by another provider in the past. They can’t give me any information about who it was, why it was etc, and I have absolutely no idea what it’s about. To the best of my knowledge this has never happened.

Is there any way I can find the information they have apparently found on their database? Obviously it’s quite important that I get this sorted.

You can do a Subject Data Access Request to the insurer that has cancelled your latest policy and similarly from the MIB who maintain the Claims and Underwriting Exchange database https://www.mib.org.uk/managing-insurance-data/requesting-your-data/

Probably do both at the same time, chances are the data has come from CUE unless it was them theselves that cancelled the prior policy.

They are allowed to disclose this information to you as you are the party it is about.   So, what have they said about it so far?
If they refuse, then do exactly what sandtree says above.

  • Hi everyone
wondering  if anyone is having the same issues as me . I took out car insurance with Debenhams.. they cancelled as I needed to disclose endorsements from 2017 (I’ve no points on my license £120 Down the drain. Then I took out another one last night with RCI £96 deposit paid and this time I upload my endorsement but the website would only upload the 1 bearing in mind my policy isn’t up and running until the 23rd of December. So I called them this morning to be put on hold for over and hour to be told they would right to the under writer ( probably jimmy sat next him at his desk) for him to call me back and say it’s cancelled and he’s found me another insurance company ( most likely Paul Cole who is the director for RCI and Debenhams and many more). And quoted me £1500. I said no thanks I’d like a refund he said I’d get a call .... that never came so I phoned again 47mins on hold to be told by Jess that she would wave the £13 debt and I won’t be get a refund. I’ve not signed no papers and the policy wasn’t due to start until the 23/12/20 I uploaded my drivers license and ncb everything but it wouldn’t give me the option to click 2 endorsements. Only the one .
    Has anyone got any advice

Please ask your own thread rather than on someone else's on an unrelated subject.   It is considered bad form to "hijack" someone else's thread.

  • Sorry never been on here before and new . Thanks for the advice won’t do it again 😳
  • Thanks very much for the advice guys.
Unfortunately my previous insurers were pretty useless in helping me find out where this mysterious problem stems from.

Have now taken out a policy with Churchill. Spoke to them on the phone and was upfront with them about the issues I’ve been having and they don’t seem worried, so at least I’m covered for the time being. I must say they were very helpful and reassuring about the situation. They said they obviously can’t tell me anything about the database issue until they have actually done their checks, but if anything does show up they’re happy to share the information with me so I can get it sorted.

will have a look at the link posted above tomorrow and see what that’s all about, may see what information I can get from that rather than waiting to hear back from Churchill. My brains frazzled at the moment because of so many calls to several different company’s today.

  • Could you share with us the name of the imbecilic insurance company  who will not tell you but would have to do  so if you submit an SAR
I would be making them discuss this matter with the ombudsman
