Fibre - Shell vs TalkTalk

Hi, I've been with Shell 35mb fibre for a few months now, no complaints. They're hiking tarrifs by a couple of quid which makes it about the same cost as the current Talk Talk 65mb fibre offer. These are the only two fibre options in my post code unfortunately.
Given that there's a short window to leave Shell penalty-free I was thinking of taking up the TalkTalk offer. Any thoughts on their service or even better someone who has made a switch from Shell to TalkTalk? I use my home internet for work so I would be interested in any experience of the the switch over process as well.
Thanks!

  • Hi i moved from 1p Broadband over to Shell both use TTB as suppliers used the same router had nothing to change .1P are fine and at 19.99 per month on a 30 day contract suited me at the time.Would not think twice  about moving back once this Shell contract finishes. Hope it helps.

£20/month for fibre with no tie-in sounds really good. Unfortunately I just checked and they don't service my postcode.

Ask Shell retentions for a better price offer to stay with them?  I got a better price from TT when my contract was up than their 'offer' in my account online.  All it took was a brief call to them.  Mind you that's now more than they are charging new customers!  (The cheek of it :'( ).

Beware that - unless your FTTC connection is good enough - that 65 may be very little different to the speed you get on your current 35?  Use the Openreach/BT Wholsesale checker https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL If so, save the £2?
Mind if you can get Cashback as well by switching, you may be Quids in?

It can't be any worse, given the shell Broadband is actually provided by talktalk

Sorry but Shell is on the Talktalk Business network complete different to Talktalk retail which i would not recommend to anyone.
  • Plenty of TTB resellers out there.Toople,1p,Uno, Pulse 8, Utility Warehouse to name a few.

    Thanks for all your comments.
Called Shell, they confirmed that the transfer to TalkTalk would be seamless with no change of equipment needed and no need to contact Shell. I asked for a goodwill gesture of upgrading the Shell package to the 65mb one but they refused. So I've now applied for TalkTalk 65, somewhere in the process it said that the speed will be between 48-55mb so not a huge increase in speed but still a significant one nevertheless.
I immediately got an email from Talktalk with a start date in the new year and a few hours later an email from Shell with the same date.
