And yet the OP's passport is not valid as mentioned in their OP. 'do not have a current passport' - can OP clarify this? Why the bank won't accept your passport if it is valid?IanManc said:

If you want to make it difficult for yourself, dont upgrade. Its your choice.IanManc said:I've got a full driving licence which is paper only, because I've never moved house since photocard driving licences were introduced. I'll only need to get a photo one if I move house or become 70 years old.
I need to have a passport anyway so use that for photo ID.
My paper licence expires when I'm 70. Photocard ones expire after 10 years and there's a fee of £21.50 to renew them. In the length of time I've had mine I would already have had to have renewed a photocard licence twice and paid the fee twice, completely unnecessarily. I will save the fee another two times before I'm 70 if I don't move house, which I have no plans to do.
Having a paper licence causes me no problem whatsoever, but has and will save me money, and it doesn't require renewing.
So how am I making it difficult for myself?
OP you need to help yourself as well. Banks now a days have higher security checks than they did 10-20 years ago and I'm afraid if your unwilling or unable to provide what the bank are asking for, your limiting yourself severely.
I know your trying to save money on renewals, but that has come back to bite you now. Some things you absolutely should save on, but there are some things which are essential."It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

You might want to check who the OP is. Hint: it's not IanManc.csgohan4 said:

but the op doesn't have a current passport, appreciate it's not IanManc, but the reply also applies to them as well over lack of photo ID. You will regret it when there comes a time you need it and you don't have itEco_Miser said:

Surely the easiest way for the OP to proceed is to set up internet or telephone banking?#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3660

I suspect that is the confusion as the OP has nothing. IanManc has an alternative ID that is more than sufficient.Eco_Miser said:

That is exactly right. If the OP walks into a branch and asks to transfer money they will ask for ID. Although when I did it a while ago now they didn't ask for photo ID - I just had to use my debit card and prove I knew the PIN. And of course sign. However things may have moved on and the banks are asking for photo ID. Quite right too.JGB1955 said:Surely the easiest way for the OP to proceed is to set up internet or telephone banking?
Setting up internet and/or telephone banking would enable transfers to be done without going into a branch.
As regard the OPs question - I do not know or any fixed term savings accounts paying decent rates that accept cheque deposits but there may be some.1
