I think you fully deserve a refund - If it were the other way and a non-smoker ordered a non-smoking room but was put in a smoking room where they could smell strong smoke smell etc they would not be happy (well ok some woud put up with it but many would complain espec if a heavy smoker in before them). If you order something you should get it - if two friends ordered a twin room does this mean travelodge could put them in a double as an alternative? Or elderly person who wants ground floor can get 1st floor as alternative?

For the record I still stay at travelodge alot and also, although a non-smoker for 18 months, I used to be on 40 a day so can understand why you would not want to have to go outside every time you faniced a cig and why should you have to! You booked a smoking room you should get one or be refunded - the error was on their side!

    Made me remember this joke:

    Q. What should you do if your girlfriend starts smoking during sex?
    A. Slow down and use lubricant.

... it's not like you spend many waking hours in a Travelodge room.

Back when I was doing my CFP exams (and smoked at the time) I would book myself into a travel lodge for a week or so and lock myself away studying. I would have been really annoyed if I had to go out every time for a ciggy. It's hard for anyone not addicted to understand but thats the way it happens.

I therefore strongly beleive you do have a claim for refund

Ex smoker here, and yes i think they should give you a refund as a guesture of goodwill, or offer you a very good discount.

They are not providing the service you booked, so you should have the option to cancell. They should be inconvenienced, not you.

I don't smoke and make this clear when booking ANYWHERE- so a smoking room would not be a suitable alternative for me. If that is the case, then a non-smoking room is inappropriate for the OP, and Travelodge have broken their contract I hope you can get your refund.

Travelodge seem to be inconsistent with their policy on 'reasonable control' anyway. They make no attempt to warn guests about possible health risks, even when they know about them and have gained payment for them. Dog owners can pay £10 and their dogs can sleep in the room.

I am allergic to dogs but there is nowhere to ask for a dog free room. After being taken ill whilst sleeping in a room previously used as a kennel, Travelodge refunded my money - but I would rather have had a safe night's sleep.
