Pregnant but all of a sudden cannot eat: Anyone been through this?

Hi All,
I have seen the dr who prescribed some anti sickness tablets. I am just about 28 weeks and haven't been able to eat for two days. I have a friend who was sick all the way through which I have never experienced.
The dr has signed me off work for 2 weeks as I thinks that it may be water infection related. They also found protein in my urine...
I am trying to drink water but this makes me feel like being sick....
This is my second child and the first pregnancy was very different. I know it can't be perfect all the way through but I'm just wondering what other's who have been through similar have dealt with it.
The baby needs the nutrition I know...but how can I make myself eat. I'm worried about the baby and hope everything will be okay.
Thanks all.

Hi there
24 weeks pregnant here and have been feeling like this since about 10 weeks. The sickness, combined with the constant headaches is no fun!
Most days I will be sick at least once but I do have the odd day when I feel fine, and on those days I eat non-stop! In fact, for the first few months I actually lost weight.
As long as the baby is growing then it should be ok, dehydration is more of an issue. But on a bad day I will only have about 1 or 2 glasses or water and so far so good (touch wood!) And I know what you mean, it is impossible to eat anything when the constant feeling of sickness is there. But if you get the odd half hour when you do actually stop feeling sick, make the most of it. Have to admit that now I dont tend to eat what I fancy, have to think a bit more of what it will be like when Im sick later! (tmi I know!)
On the bright side at nearly 6 months pregnant I have only put on about 6 pounds and that is all just round my stomach (and that really is the only bright side!)
I was given a weeks supply of anti sickness tablets from the doctor but these didnt help at all so I didnt bother getting any more.
My first pregnancy was a dream compared to this one, but hey, will all be worth it when the baby is here.

i feolt the same the whole time i was pregnant,, i weighed less the day i had him then i did before i was pregnant, not the best diet i have ever been on
all u can do is eat when u actually feel that u can.. one thing tho the longer u dont eat the less u feel like eating, (wish i had realised this at the time) so try and eat even if its jus a dry biscuit which might stimulate yr appetite
good luck and hope it passes soon

This is my first baby and from day one was sick, sometimes 10 times a day. Its really not nice and i never thought it would end but from around week 26 it started to ease. I still feel sick in the mornings but havent been sick for around 6/8 weeks now (touch wood!)
Try not to worry about the baby, your body will give the baby what they need first, leaving you feeling yuk. Im still drinking 2 x Complans a day as i just dont have an appetite.
There is a name for excessive morning sickness and more info on this website (will just go find it for you)
I found reading the stories on the website very reasurring - perfectly healthy babies born from women who had survived on little more than pear drops for the whole 9 months, there is also a forum where you could chat to others going through the same thing. I love my gorgeous little girl

If you have a water infection and haven't been prescribed antibiotics, it's very important that you increase your fluid intake, to "flush" your system. Go back to your GP and explain the tablets aren't working!
Not eating for a few days isn't going to harm the baby, but you can end up being hospitalised with dehydration."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0 -
Its called hyperemesis gravidarum

Hiya x
I totally swear by vitamin B6 - 25 mg three times a day!
You need to check your GP is happy for you to take it - I didn't have much luck with the anti-sickness that my GP prescribed ( cyclizine) but found some relief with the vit B6.
You need to keep and eye on your fluid input / output - if you find you are going long periods without a wee then it may be worth calling your GP again / or NHS direct.
Hope you get better soon x

Yup, do try not to worry about the baby, because the baby will just get what it needs from you and not suffer for a long while. You, on the other hand, will still feel like cr*p ... Have you talked to your midwife? They're sometimes more help than the GP.Signature removed for peace of mind0

I was sick all the way through pregnancy with all 3 of my children and it was horrid ,all I could eat was tuna and cucumber sandwiches which had to be purchased at local shop ,did not like smell of food in the house, also could not use toothpaste hated smell of washing powder, and dogs were bannised to utility room hated the smell of them. All my children where over nine pound and I was a very trim size 10 within days of their birth ,all chidren now adult and very healthy so do not worry .0

I was sick every single day throughout my 3 pregnancies, I had to go out of the house whilst OH cooked, then come in at the last minute holding my nose so I couldn't smell it once I had got 5 or 6 mouthfuls down I could eat some without holding my nose, but was always sick again later.
Don't worry too much about the baby as long as it is growing, my babies did OK on it, they were 9lb.1, 10lb.2 and 8lb.13. So they still get their goodness.

I went through a spell with my second baby that I just had no appetite and couldn't face eating. I was never sick, felt a bit nauseous sometimes. After that passed I could only eat certain very odd things - beetroot, melon, raw cabbage... I lost a stone in weight but as Savvy sue says, the baby gets nutrients from you so it's you that suffers, rather than the baby.
In the end I had a bouncing very healthy 9lb 7 baby so no harm was done - so don't worry.
Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!
