One rule of life - leave the house looking rubbish you meet all the people you don't want to meet, make an effort and you see NO one you know. At All.
That is weird about the boundary line. You are right, I don't get what he was doing ten years ago putting up the hedges...??Nevertheless she persisted.1 -
Bl**dy house purchase has fallen through - vendors have said they now have too much going on to sell. So we have now wasted £2450 plus missed out on time with our kids dealing with all the issues, plus probably several other houses which may have fit the bill. It would've been another 3k on top lost but my friend was doing the conveyancing and has said he won't charge us (which is so kind). I think it's just such a cop out from the vendors and they just don't give a !!!!!! that we have spent all that money and organised everything around that purchase. I am hopping mad and if I could get away with mailing them (and the neighbour) one of DC's poos I would!!!!
So f*ck knows what we do now.0 -
Oh, Rebecca. Gutting doesn’t even come close, what a nightmare. I prescribe wine and chocolate tonight, don’t even think about next steps yet x

Oh no! What a nightmare. Why do people do that it's infuriating. Surely they had a lot going on when they accepted your offer as well. Very selfish
Really feel for you1 -
Oh that is so !!!!!!!
SO !!!!!!.
I am furious. You'd worked so bloody sodding hard to sort it all. !!!!!!.
Do you think it was the boundary problem? As in it would count as a dispute??
I really am fuming.Nevertheless she persisted.0 -
Is there any chance of you claiming your costs back from them? I'd definitely give it a try, as they've really led you up the garden path. Don't see why all the costs should fall to you.I Believe.....
That it isn't always enough, to be forgiven by others.
Sometimes, you have to learn to forgive yourself.

Today is a gift. That's why it is called the present.

but by getting rid of the things that make you unhappy1 -
@Buffythedebtslayer - they've given some excuses such as their new house needs a lot of work and there are a shortage of available builders, she is struggling in getting staff for her business due to covid and then the boundary dispute and so have decided it is not the right time to move. But (1) and (2) were already present when they accepted our offer. It just stinks of something else. Also, on friday, their lawyer sent a very strongly worded response to the neighbour (which we saw) basically saying that if he didn't go away, they would bring proceedings against him. His lawyer apparently responded over the weekend (which we haven't seen) and now it's a complete u-turn from them so god only knows what was in the response.
@Chrystal - DH has asked agent to try but I can already imagine the response!!!!
So we are once again stuck in this awful flat with the kids. God help us if we have to isolate - we are already stuck at home as DC1 is poorly (not covid) and it is pure hell. We had also given notice on our 2 storage lockers and to our landlady! Thankfully landlady happy for us to remain but waiting to hear on the storage.
We are going to see another house today (which hasn't yet hit the market - same agent) in the same area but we are just so reluctant to carry on.
I don't know, is this the universe's way of telling us we were borrowing too much and/or we ought to move to the uk to pursue a different lifestyle??!! We just seem to keep having so much bad luck.1 -
Storage people fine with us continuing thank god!!!! The vendors response was basically narcissistic - that THEY are the victims as they are going to be faced with lots of legal bills re the boundary dispute (am sure they have cover for this on a home insurance policy) and they hadn't incurred any survey fees or bank fees as they didn't need a mortgage and weren't getting a survey. Christ the house they were buying was 2.3million and they didn't need a mortgage (Maserati in the garage and 3 x private licence plates on their various expensive cars) but they have said that they are decent people. Plus there has been no apology whatsoever. It is a fact of life sadly that the majority of rich people get there and keep getting richer just by trampling over others.
The house yesterday was abysmal. Twice the price of what we sold last year but tiny. So that was a no. I really don't know what is going to happen. We were total idiots to sell without finding anything (though I know no one could have predicted this housing market).
Spending has (needless to say) gone through the roof as we are "treating" ourselves after so much disappointment. DH and I arguing lots as the DC are also up several times in the night and we are exhausted.
I am SO cross as well about having wished away my maternity leave to get in the house which we are now not getting and I only have just over 5 weeks left before I go back to work and chaos ensues. We are, however, (and we did start yesterday) making a big effort to sort out and tidy up the flat. We hadn't wanted to unpack at all but I think we are going to have to now.0 -
As I was reading your post I thought to myself that is what the rich do.......it is highly depressing, I know I will get so far with the money but never that far as I never had (like most people) the capacity to do it. It is hilarious (in a sad depressing way!) teaching something like sociology to teenagers as you go through the idea of poverty and the working poor or the working can't get any further than X and the students are shocked at how impossible it is for certain groups to get out of real poverty and for others to make foundation for their family when the system is stacked against them. Any how before I start sounding like a Marxist it does sound like you guys are having a rough time of it. It is a cycle of stress and house buying is awful. So sorry the new house was rubbish. You aren't total idiots, you can't predict the future at all (do you think I would be in my position if I could!) and the housing thing was a total freak with the unknown boundary situation and the !!!!!! owners. Injured party. oh sod off!!!
Five weeks is a decent amount of time to sort out the flat and get rid of stuff, in fact could you try and set yourself a deadline so you still have time to enjoy? say three weeks and then two weeks "off"?
take care XXXXNevertheless she persisted.0 -
Oh I know Bufster, but you can bet that nothing will ever change. It is such a sad horrible fact of life. It's like at my work, at christmas they have a box for people to put food donations in for the less well off - I always buy some nice christmassy treats to put in there and the people I generally see contributing to the box are those in lower/middle paid positions and NEVER the high earners. I always make a point (I haven't been recently as we have been cutting back but once we have a house I'll start again) of buying something for the welfare box at WR when doing the weekly shop and popping it in as I leave and again, put extra/more luxurious stuff in near xmas, easter etc but again, it's normal folk usually putting that in, not the very well off. It makes my blood boil.
Good idea re the deadline. Am also sorting baby stuff to sell (sold a pack of nappies last week - only a fiver but every little helps) as it is clear that due to our situation we won't be able to think about a third. So am cleaning up and selling what I can (some stuff is in storage/seasonal like xmas baby outfits so need to wait a bit) and tidied up all DC's toys yesterday into big boxes they can access in the lounge, cleared all the sh*t above the fireplace and made it tidy and sorted all the kids books out onto shelves they can get to, esp as now DC2 is crawling (help) we need to find room to put the playpen up to contain him to stop him killing himself!!!0
