Tightening the belts for unpaid leave

  • @HampshireH - you're absolutely right - I just phoned another nursery whilst DH was home for lunch and they are full until Sept 2022.  Don't think he quite believed me re the lack of spaces and how early you need to book them in.  Nursery DC1 currently goes to having to come back to us Monday - they have no space for either at present but said they have got a couple of families with spaces on hold who are due to come back to them by Friday and if they don't come back then they can accommodate both.  DH and I discussed and said if we can't get them in there, then they will have to go to the one they are booked in for, but we can put them down for the nice one from Sept 2022 so would only be a year.  We do have several friends whose kids go to the one I am concerned about and they seem happy with it, so it might not be as bad as I thought.

@astrocytic_kitten - thank you for your kind words.  You are right, of course.   And I definitely do take on all of the emotional labour.  DH is great but NEVER forward thinks about what the kids might need be it shoes, nappies, wipes, buggies, duvets, clothes, food etc etc.

I agree I should not be feeling faint on WW - still am having stuck to it for (by end of today) 4 days now.  Feel pretty rubbish tbh.

Didn't do run last night as had kids on my own all day yesterday and DC1 woke at 0530 so I was literally on call from then.  Did not even get a minute all day as the two of them were tag teaming me with demands/refusal to sleep/crying etc and then I had a playdate at a friends with her 3 kids.  Another friend turned up with her 2 kids (allowed where we are) and it was carnage.  DC1 had tea there and I didn't get home until 6.  Was just shattered.  So (hopefully) going to go tonight when DH gets home.

Spent yet MORE money on food yesterday as got 2 x milk, 5 x packs of WW wafers, chicken sausages and chicken burgers (all heck variety which are low points on WW), Ben & Jerry's Moophoria (1 scoop only 3 WW points!!), potato waffles, pom bear and biscuits for DC1 so that was £27.13.  Need to go again tonight after run as forgot diet coke and the zero calorie fry spray but should be under £5.

Tonight is goodlife spinach and mushroom kievs plus potato waffle from stores - that's only 12 points in total so then going to have a scoop of the Moophoria ice cream.  I am bl**dy bored of it already though.  We have a voucher for a local tea room which DH wants to use but I feel I can't as need to stick with WW.  That said, I do get an extra bunch of points I'm allowed each week so maybe we will and I will use some of those.  Was meant to be going for afternoon tea with friends Sat but have said I'll come but only have a peppermint tea as doing WW.  I know I sound obsessive but it is the only way (plus the exercise) I feel to get the weight off.

DH off tomorrow afternoon so we are going to go for a walk with the DC in the area we like and try to mailshot any houses we see that we like.  Hoping buggy will be here tomorrow also.  They have refunded us £30 for all the inconvenience.  So that's something.

DH was shocked today when I told him how much he needed to give me for the credit card this month and asked how on earth it was that much.  It is because it was basically our usual budget when 2 of us are paying but he's obv feeling it more as he's paying my share too.  I did comment that there were a lot of coffee van transactions on there...!
  • oh and there's already a coffee van transaction for £6.10 on even though we are only 3 days into new budget!!!
  • DON’T go for a run while you’re feeling rubbish, you’ll do yourself an injury. Let yourself get used to the food first, and they do say weight loss is 90% what you’re eating anyway. Could you go up to a maintenance level of food or something till you get used to it? It sounds like you could do with some you time you, could you have a hot bath without being bugged constantly by the kids? If not you could always l get dressed in running stuff then go and sit in a cafe or something 😆

And point out to DH that if he’s going to carry on spending as normal, he’s going to end up paying way more to the credit card. Hopefully this month will be a wake up call.

Also, huge respect to anyone who can manage with only one scoop of Ben & Jerry’s! If I have one I have to have half the tub.

Never done WW. Have experience of My fitness Pal app to count calories though and found it worked - more so if I input all my food the night before.

You got this but you won't lose weight by eating too little as your body will react to that. You need to be eating all the calories you are entitled to with decent foods.

I agree with this, I lost weight with WW but it was bl**dy miserable and expensive!
I find My Fitness Pal much better. The first week I just logged everything I was eating and it was then clear to see where I was going wrong and easy to see what I needed to do to stay within the daily calorie allowance. No special diet food (and I still have some chocolate every day)

  • Thanks all.  I didn't go for a run in the end as was just feeling too faint.  So I had a goodlife spinach and mushroom kiev plus potato waffle and a scoop of ben and jerrys (not all on same plate!) for tea.  A good night's sleeo and am feeling much better.  Dropping DC1 at MIL this morning and have to take DC2 with me so am dressed in running gear (half the battle I find) and going to leave both DC with her whilst I do second run on C25K.  Am actually thinking that might be best way to do it so would do that monday and friday mornings when dropping to her as then means DH only has to deal with the dinnertime chaos alone once a week.

Spoke to estate agent last night (one we sold through and who has been giving us heads up of stuff coming on in advance) and said we were losing hope and wish we hadn't sold.  He said "no no don't, I'm just waiting for the nod on a couple of things but we will find your house".  I am hopeful that means he is waiting to hear if they are a go on some thing(S) which might suit us as don't think he would have said that otherwise - I think otherwise I'd just have got the usual spiel about the market being rubbish etc.  He is quite a straight talking bloke.  So I now have everything crossed.

So this morning after run am going to nip to a supermarket with DC2 on way home to see if they have any different varieties of the healthy veggie range we are eating and, more importantly, more moophoria!!!  We also need diet coke so will get that (I know that's not great but it's my wine replacement!).

DH off this arvo so going to go for a walk with the 2DC and try to mailshot some more houses in another area.

    Happy Friday Peeps!
  • Did my second C25K run - it was tough but did it.  MIL is making snidey comments (a lot) at the moment.  I got back and she goes "that was quick" and I was like, "it was half an hour and I'm following a plan".  Sometimes I think she doesn't want me to lose weight as she struggles herself!  Anyway, we agreed that I would do runs Monday and Friday mornings leaving both DC with her and then picking DC2 up after I've finished, so I can't be toooooo grumbly with her!!!

Went to the supermarket and they had 2 different varieties of Moophoria(!) so I got both as they were £4.80 a tub as opposed to £6 in WR!!!!  Also got DC1 some Alphabites - he just won't eat anything with potato in so hoping because they are letter shaped.....Anyway, that was £11.40 in total.  Still need to get diet coke and spray but it was more expensive at this supermarket so, as we are out and about later anyway, I will grab later as know where it's cheaper and we will be passing there!

DC2 currently asleep in car seat so going to nip and have a quick shower before he wakes.  I feel pretty good after that run and have just caned a protein shake (diet one) so definitely think mornings are the way to go for me - am just too shattered by end of day!

I did WW about a 100 years ago and got really good at adding up to 21 plus that party rings were 1/2 a point so I ate a lot of them!
