My mobile stops ringing . How to solve it

Hi .  I have a Nokia 2.3 phone and use Vodaphone PAYG.  Over the last 6 months I have had a problem with my phone which only comes to light if someone tries to ring me.  It first happened about 6 months ago. The phone would ring once then cut out.  I only realised this as I was trying to complete a transaction with my bank and  they were trying to ring me but the number was saying unavailable.  After much looking online I found a code to put into my phone to extend the ringtime.  It worked for about 3 months then the same thing happened again. Eventually found  new code and it worked ok again.  Then yesterday it happened again.  I am in the process of selling my property and get calls from my solicitor and I am worried that I will miss something important.  Does anyone know how I can stop this from keep happening please.  I am 64 years old and not particularly tech savvy.  I only use my phone for texting friends and family and occasionally making a call or receiving one.  Thanks
