Hacked Amazon Account

  • You should be able to see the addresses in your order history, can you not pass them to the police yourself
Amazon removed the order details from my account as soon as I informed them my account had been hacked so they are not in my order history. I do have the addresses however that the items were delivered to as Amazon very kindly provided them in their refusal to accept my dispute claim when they said the goods had been delivered. I can’t see the police being interested but might try just incase and provide them with the details but it wouldn’t surprise me if the person who hacked my account used an innocent persons address and just stood outside it when the order arrived and said they lived there.
  • So you now raise a formal complaint with the bank?
  • Amazon said I had to raise a dispute claim with my bank who then forward the claim to Amazon for them to respond to which they did and rejected the claim because the items were delivered.

I always get 2fa with different browsers , you can turn this off on a browser once you have done 2fa .

A new device being used will always trigger 2fa

    Something odd going on here

I assumed 2fa gives option to ignore it as when I place an order it comes up with the option to ignore it on this browser (or words to that effect). I’ve only had it on my Amazon account so don’t really know how it works.

If you have logged into a browser/device before then it won't ask for it. If someone logs in from anywhere else then it will ask for 2FA details so how did they get hold of these details? Are you sure this wasn't someone you know?. Also you account hasn't been "hacked" what has happened is you have somehow given out your password which usually happens by phishing but then with 2FA they wouldn't be able to get in with just the password which makes it all seem strange.
  • I have no idea. I am not aware of opening any phishing emails and always go direct to sites rather than emails. I certainly have not given out my password to anyone as I am very security conscious and even have the camera covered on my laptop since watching the bbc programme with Gloria hunniford etc where someone fell for a scam on their bank account and the criminals gained information from watching via the camera on the fact they had natwest account etc.

I am only looking for advice if anyone can help me try and get my money back but feel more like people are suggesting I have made everything up. I do not know anyone in Wales (the address ironically where the toothbrushes were delivered to was a dentist). I don’t know if I am using the correct terminology saying my Amazon account was hacked all I know was someone gained access to my account and placed the order. I contacted amazon within an hour of this happening but they still delivered the items. All I want is my money back (Amazon assured me this would happen when I spoke to them originally). £99 is a lot of money to me especially in the current climate and I have two boys to buy Xmas presents for.

I raised a dispute with my bank which Amazon said I had to do as they said they can’t refund me the bank has to get refund from Amazon and then I should get money credited to my bank. However Amazon’s response to my claim via my bank (which my bank forwarded to me) was it’s was a false claim as the goods were delivered therefore Amazon won’t return the money. The bank won’t refund me since Amazon have refused the dispute case. The banks email to me with Amazon’s response attached just said if I wish to contest Amazons dispute I need to provide them with details as to why I don’t agree with Amazons decision.
They need to stop treating it as a DISPUTE & treat it as FRAUD.
If they will not do that, then you have to raise a complaint with Nat West on their failure to act.
You did not make the transaction, the fact you have a amazon account is not the point here. Yes any retailer that has a customer account hacked, should deal & refund. But they never do...

    Life in the slow lane
  • Thank you I’ll try going down that route

Personally I would be very concerned how this happened when with 2FA it shouldn't have been able too. My concern would be that if you don't know how someone could gain access to your account then there is nothing stopping it from happening again.
  • I have removed any stored card details so it can’t happen again and also intend to !!!!!! my account. Doesn’t get me my money back though. As far as I am aware it is only my Amazon account that has been compromised.
