    The reason the other ways are not working is because the user hasn't automatically subscribed to all the posts (s)he has posted in. I don't subscribe automatically simply because I feel it clutters up my inbox.

    You can subscribe to thread and NOT get email notification!

    I sometimes find myself re-reading the FAQ, you will be suprised at the tips on there that you didnt even realise, as long as I have been an MSE member, I still find bits I didnt realise on FAQ.

    You can subscribe to threads you post to, WITHOUT getting emails.

    select:
    User CP
    Edit Options
    Messaging & Notification
    Default Thread Subscription Mode ==> No Email Notification

    Every thread you post to, you automatically subscribe to, so it appears in your User CP list of threads, but you don't get bombarded by emails.
