do we complain to currys or is it a case of suck it up for not checking.
Complain about what? Were Curry's meant to know you had put it in a cupboard?
Do you not think 13yrs of cover is a bit excessive considering the lifespan of a laptop?
No reason why it can't still be working and in use. I've got one over 14 years old - don't use it much, but it still goes.
Anyway, yes this is your dad's own daft fault.
    Of course you have dave
Why not?  I have an old one I use for stuff that doesn't need security or web access, and it's an old Windows XP machine, so dates from many years ago, probably around the same vintage as the one in your dad's cupboard.

You may think that's unbelievable, but is it any less so than not checking one's bank statements since 2007?

Our family fleet consists of 4 laptops from 2007, 1 desktop from 2008, 2 desktops from 2010 and 1 laptop from 2011 all happily running W10 20H2 so what is so hard to believe ?  I also have no unexplained DDs coming out of my bank account.

I’ve still got my laptop which I first got for going to university 15 years ago and it still works perfectly well (albeit, a bit noisy).

But that’s not the point. What is wrong with the laptop and what does the cover include? Is there a replacement clause in there? As someone else has mentioned, it might be worth taking it in for repair before the cover ends, as if it is deemed irreparable, maybe you could get a replacement (albeit very basic spec I’m sure) which might help offset some of the cost?

He may not remember but he would have signed a direct debit mandate at the time.  How else would Curry's know how to bill him each month?
Odds on for this he won't. It will be a payment via debit/credit card each month.

But a nice reminder to everyone to check & query anything they do not recognise on a statement. ESPECIALLY is going out on a monthly basis.

Bet its reference is "product support AG"
No right to any refund by the bank either.

Whilst I agree there is no right to a refund and he should have checked many moons ago I don't see the harm in making a request for some of this to be refunded. If they decline he is no worse off than at present and if they give him just small proportion back he is better off. Don't ask, don't get.
