Laptop cover

Morning all,
my dad has just had a letter from currys customer support saying his laptop cover is about to end, with a puzzled look on his face I went round to had a look over the letter, now it seems he has been paying £6.99pm since 2007 on a laptop that he bought my sister 13years ago, we still have the laptop surprisingly sat in a cupboard after it stopped working probably 10years ago.
Now he was totally oblivious to even having this cover nevermind paying for it, we don't really know what to do or where we stand, do we complain to currys or is it a case of suck it up for not checking.
Any advice would be grateful

Complain about what? Were Curry's meant to know you had put it in a cupboard?whiskey710 said:do we complain to currys or is it a case of suck it up for not checking.4 -

Do you not think 13yrs of cover is a bit excessive considering the lifespan of a laptop?davidmcn said:

No reason why it can't still be working and in use. I've got one over 14 years old - don't use it much, but it still goes.whiskey710 said:

Anyway, yes this is your dad's own daft fault.3 -
Did he not wonder what the £6.99 coming out of his bank account every month was for?Is he paying for anything else he’s not aware of - now might be a good time for him to check his statements. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.2 -
Of course you have davedavidmcn said:

Does he never check his bank account and wonder what the £6.99 a month was........this sounds like the post a few weeks ago someone paying for washing machine cover for god knows how many years then expecting a refund2

Well you would have thought so but hes of that age where he refuses to have internet banking and obviously not clocked it on his paper statements.elsien said:Did he not wonder what the £6.99 coming out of his bank account every month was for?Is he paying for anything else he’s not aware of - now might be a good time for him to check his statements.

My predecessor in this house has been paying for roof, locks and pest cover for the last ten years I've been living here, at over £20 per month. Every year I send back the statement to tell them they're no longer living here, yet they keep paying. They had a few magazine subscriptions running to this address for a few years after moving out, as well. It's amazing how many people have no idea what's leaving their bank accounts every month.
Anyway, the long and short of it is that it's been an expensive mistake by your father. No, he has no right to complain, he got what he signed up for. He may not remember but he would have signed a direct debit mandate at the time. How else would Curry's know how to bill him each month?0 -
He obviously agreed to pay this at the time. It's not curry's fault he forgot to cancel it so you won't be able to pursue it. Maybe offer to sit with him and go through all his statements to make sure he's not paying for other things he doesn't need.2
