Non-refund of admin fees

So I booked a package holiday in Jan for September this year which was cancelled due the restrictions on package holidays, however sometime April I made an amendement to my package to extend it so ended up paying £200 admin fees. However I have been told those fees are non-refundable. How can that be if the holiday was cancelled?
What makes it even more annoying is that was only because of the governments stupid rule on package holidays. I still went on holiday just had to rebook the flights and accommodation separate. I don't see why I should lose the £200 when the cancellation was nothing to do with me and the flights / accommodation were still available just not as a "package".
Anyone got any advise please?

The administration fees are typically levied to do the actual work and make the change to the original holiday. The package holiday cost would be refunded if cancelled by the Operator but not any prior administration charges on work and changes you asked them to do. What you have been told by the Operator is correct.

Why should the company lose the admin fees when they did as you asked? They have to be paid for their time too.2

What advice about package holidays? Who cancelled your original one and when? Where were you going? Who was it with?
As for the admin fees; firms can apply a non refundable admin fee if in t’s and c’s. How many people did the £200 relate to?Bit confused by your post so more info would help.0 -
Why should I lose £200 when they cancelled it on me and I then had to rebook the same accommodation with them for the same dates? Seems a bit of a con.MarkN88 said:Why should the company lose the admin fees when they did as you asked? They have to be paid for their time too.0 -
James Villas cancelled my package on me due to "government advice" yet I rebooked the accommodation with them same day and just had to book the same flights separately.Tedber said:What advice about package holidays? Who cancelled your original one and when? Where were you going? Who was it with?

can you confirm what the amendment was....you mention 'extend it', does that mean you changed the booked holiday from 7 days to 10 days for example?BurnCK said:sometime April I made an amendement to my package to extend it so ended up paying £200 admin fees.
or was this a cost you rebooking the accommodation that had been part of the cancelled package? (I would have expected a full refund for the cancelled package and a net new booking for the accommodation with no change fees relevant)0 -
You said in the original post you chose to amend the booking to extend it, therefore you asked for a change, therefore they did their “administrative” role and you incurred a cost.BurnCK said:

You took a chance in April that the pandemic would be over by September. It wasn't. You've no grounds for complaint as was your choice to incur the additional non refundable costs. Entirely your choice.0

I understand that but because they cancelled the holiday on me it seems a bit unfair that I paid £200 for nothing. If the holiday went ahead then obviously I'd have nothing to complain about, even though £200 for a few mins work is a bit of a rip off in the first place. Fair enough, just thought I'd ask.MarkN88 said:

Your not paying £200 for nothing, they did their job and rightly should be paid.0
