  • Why did you think because it was tracked they would redirect it for you on your behalf?
  • Whenever i've sent something Tracked i'm always asked to put my details on the parcel, i thought this was a standard requirement ?

Thanks I realise my mistake, but as mentioned above it does have a tracking number on the parcel - if it is possible to track it to the address, surely it can still be tracked now? I just hope the present is given to a good cause and not just destroyed.
All the tracking number will tell them now is which sorting office it is in. Think how many hundreds of parcels might be in there, they aren’t going to send someone round checking every parcel til they find the one that matches your number. If there was a return address it would be returned.

maybe, if your nephew is still local he could go to the local enquiries desk where undeliverable items are held and see if they will hand it over as it is addressed to him. But it’s a long shot if it is located in the right place for the enquiry desk to find it.

Tracking means the nephew has been tracked so they can track him down to their new address? No?

Privatisation has clearly caused the psychic posties to cease being trained.

Honestly. Such a basic thing as the correct address and a return address.....
If people want mail redirected then its a paid for service by the person who moved.
how people still confuse RM & PO as the same company I dont know, then they are surprised when people in the other company arent interested.....
RM can put details to Belfast with regards to an items sender (did they mention this is/when you spoke to Royal Mail?) but the Belfast office is huge and deals (especially at this time of year) with huge volumes of no return address items.
Another costly arm of Royal Mail I expect ill be removed sooner rather than later.

I don't confuse them - but I started working for the organisation only 18 months after it ceased to be part of the Civil Service (Vesting Day October 1969) so I know its many guises.
I can however understand other people's confusion though as you hand your parcel in to a Post Office and then it's delivered by Royal Mail.

What will the excuse be when PO start taking parcel traffic from couriers too? ;)

I didn't know this. I always assumed they were one and the same, the Post Office was just the 'front shop' so to speak for items to be sent by Royal Mail. Every day is a learning day I suppose :)

That's why I pointed out to custardy that I can understand why people do make that mistake.
    Custardy's background is Royal Mail.
    Mine is similar.
Of course we know the difference.
But I don't expect everyone to know.
I thought it was an unfair comment.

Post Office was separate from Royal Mail letters over 20 years ago (however still under Royal Mail group)
There was a pretty public privatisation and big deal made about PO staying under state ownership.
