Been doing some reading, and want one of these two cars. Between 2009 and 2014 plates. Preferebly 5 Door and direct from the manufacturer ( Used Approved )
First and foremost, reliability - followed by ease of driving and parking. Only for short distances.

From what i've heard and read ( from car users, not paid journalists ) is that the Yaris is better.
Can anyone on here give their experience and which one they think is better ?

I think they've both got pretty good reputations for reliability.  For what it's worth, my son has just got rid of his 2005 Yaris which was his first car.  We paid £800 for it, sold it for £400, which ain't bad going for 3 years of motoring in my book.  Nothing ever needed doing to it other than consumables and routine maintenance (which my lad did himself, with tuition from yours truly).  Just bear in mind, if you're buying a 10 year old car, you've got to expect to have some repairs to do in the not too distant future.  Both those cars should be pretty reliable as long as they've been well looked after and serviced regularly - as always, buy on condition, which amongst other things means giving it a thorough inspection and test-drive before you buy.  Yes, a fully-stamped service book is a good start, but it's not the be-all-and-end-all (anyone can get a service stamp made up for a couple of quid on eBay if they're so inclined ......).  Plenty of receipts to prove that things have been changed as and when they should have been is often a more reliable indicator, whether the work has been done by a dealer, an independent mechanic or a reasonably competent DIYer.

Being slightly biased and never even driven a Polo, I would still go for a Yaris. Apparently Toyota customer service is far better than VW's? Owned two Yarissssss, the first had the awful Multimode transmission (automated manual) and my current 1.33l petrol. Almost 7 years old, bought as a pre-reg, never missed a beat - yet!

Nope I have been checking Toyotas used website and there are loads on there between 2008 and 2014 for under £6,000

Some say " approved Toyota plus " and some say " Toyota plus essentials  "
