Hi all. Not very frugal, or particularly nice news but our oldest dog died in his sleep. It wasn't totally a surprise but obviously very distressing. I had money earmarked in my limited savings to pay for whatever he needed when this happened so whilst also very expensive, it's what feels right. House feels awful without him and after the awful year we have had personally it is just another thing to drag us down. We were very lucky to adopt him and have so many years with him. It doesn't ease the pain but it makes it more manageable. He might have been a rather smelly grumpy old boy but he was our rather smelly and grumpy old boy.
Frugal doesn't seem to be happening in my life much at the moment but I did order 2 new hot water bottles because with us all wrapping up with those and a blanket on a night time, the heating stays off. Dug out some candle holders to dot around for that 'it's warmer in here by candlelight affect'.19 -
@Ellie79 sorry for your loss, always awful when this happens, they are part of the family.
You are doing better than us with the frugal. Our heating has been on for a few weeks, only 1.5 hours over the course of the day, but feeling the cold a lot just now despite layers, hot food etc. We are using the fire to warm the place up at night but its not practical to have in on during the day and have to keep an eye on it.

He had many, but mainly Zorro. There were the abbreviations that come from adding Mr, De and totally not using the Z and calling him Rorro. He must have been 15 we think. Bestest of boys (alongside all the other bestest of boys and bestest of girls). Is a big miss already.10

Ellie79 - Thinking of you. I had to put my dog to sleep in February at the age of 18 - and I still miss her. The cat is trying to fill in - but it isn't the same. Time does help heal.8

You're all very kind. Thank you. We were just lucky to have him whilst we did. It always feels like you've been chosen if your pet adores you unconditionally. That is, for me, what leaves the gap.10

My heart goes out to you Elli. I have a 12 year old rescue lurcher and I don’t know what I would have done without him since my dad died in May. He has been a life saver. I know despite the heartache when he goes I will rescue another dog11
